Does anyone know how to log or find what would be causing a shutdown to hang in High Sierra. I have already done the standard Google work, and have dug through console as much as possible to no avail.

Basically I have done a full erase and clean install of High Sierra on a 2017 15inch MBP touch bar, then cleanly installed all of my apps then copied pictures, music etc via external hard drive. When I shut it down, screen goes black with the white spinner wheel thing for like 45 seconds to a minute before fully turning off.

I know I can wipe it again then install apps one by one to see whats causing it but that would take a while if there is a way to tell from the logs what's doing it. Any suggestions?

Your description of shutdown sounds normal and is intentional... The memory and caches are being written. All Macs shut down this way.

I've never had a device take this long to shut down, and this definitely was not a thing on Sierra before I did the clean install.
