I think it would be cool to use iPhone versions of iPad apps in multitask mode. Every app installed on an iPad normally has an iPhone version associated, I doubt it would be to complex to implement the feature set.

The concept works well on windows tablets. Basically, you can split screen down the middle between two apps. This is actually really nice. I often watch netflix while browsing the web. You might think that the content would be too small to be useful, but a tablet is larger than 2 iphones next to each other. The only way to do this on an ipad is to buy two ipads.

HUh?

Then buy a Windows tablet.

What's the issue here?

You want the iPad to be everything it is, plus everything you like from other companies?

Yes, that's exactly it. That's what companies do. They look at ideas that work and either buy them out and add it in or make their own take on it and add it in. Do you really think that even apple will be complacent and never add multitasking? I'd expect it to happen eventually, and apple is the last tablet software manufacturer to be missing this feature.

Take touchid. It's not a new idea for people to log into devices with their fingerprint. Apple bought a company with touchid technology and added it into their devices.

Apple copies features that are best for their biggest group of customers, not a bunch of power users who want their tablets to be portable with great battery life, yet just as usable and fast as a desktop PC.

The split screen in Windows 8.1 sucks.

Actually, its excellent. I can read pdfs and make notes in oneNote. I like the ipad--but its very limited

I have no problem doing 95% of my work on my iPad or iPhone, because I understand how things work, the limitations and the workarounds.

Definitely just your opinion. Anytime you end up with black bars on the screen it's a waste of space that COULD be used for something else. Task switching does the same job without the waste.

The ipad--limitations and workarounds

All operating systems have limitations and workarounds. The only difference is that people have been using Windows and OSX for so long that they are completely used to them.

The idea that an iPad is going to provide desktop-style multitasking completely misses the point. To make that practical, as opposed to a cheap parlor trick, you'd need: (1) a bigger screen, (2) a physical keyboard and (3) a mouse. Even the noteworthy MBA 11" is marginal for doing the kind of multitasking I do with my desktop with two 24" monitors (duh - but duh is exactly the point) or what I can do with a 15" laptop.

Both windows and osx have file trees. ios does not--and to me this is root
of a lot of work arounds

Funny, I don't notice it since everything uses Dropbox without issue.

Someone who gets it. Finally.
