is there a way to make a higher resolution on my MBP?
No, as you have the 13" MBP (if your signature Mac is the one you talk about), you are limited to a maximum of 1280 x 800 pixel. All you can do is getting an external display for 100 to 300 USD.
Well in theory you could buy a high res panel that has the same dimensions and exchange it with the one you have.
Probably very difficult to get your hands on a 13" 16:10 panel though as they don't really exist anymore. Even if it was possible the whole operation would be mighty expensive and really difficult in DIY style.
Probably easier to sell the MBP and buy an Asus UX31A or 32VD. If you want a great panel in a small form factor that is the best thing on the market. 1080p IPS, 380 nits and matte.
