Figures that a government employee wants more entitlements. How about we make you pay more since the tax payer is funding your payroll?

----------

You work for USPS, so you're underworked and overpaid. Why would you be pissed about someone getting a discount?

Haha someone is pissy. And talking smack about service members is not the best idea. You'll never win that argument. They should have some of the highest fan discount.

Also I think a lot of under educated, none performing, lazy government Employees exist. They are the worst and they do not care what people think because they know they cannot be fired easily. I have worked both the GS scale and in the military. The government should be the top-notch organization in the country to work for not corporate America. However we have let The worst kind of lazy people into these jobs.

So how does one get the FAN number added to their account with AT&T? I ask their methods because years ago I worked for a company who received a pretty good discount on Verizon's network and I've been using that discount ever since. 20% off the monthly access fee, 25% off my data plan on the primary line, and 20% off phones and accessories.

We have considered switching to AT&T with the iPhone 5 release; however, our current employers discounts are nowhere near what we're already getting with Verizon. The only way I'd consider switching now is if we could somehow get the same or a better deal through AT&T.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions???

Try www.att.com/wireless/XXX where XXX is the name of the company FAN you want to get. For example, www.att.com/wireless/usps for the Postal Service. Click the box for transferring your number and it should take you to the plans for that company, with the discounts listed.

You can also find a list of most of the FAN discounts on the Howard Forums website.

How do they verify if you work for that company?

They send email to the address you supply them, from that company.

for me, I work for the University of Nevada, which encompasses UNLV, Univ. of Nevada Reno, and the Colleges of Southern Nevada. My email address ends in 'nevada.edu', so they sent mail to that address. I received it, followed the instructions, and boom! FAN applied to my account.

BTW: 15% for me off the bill, 25% off accessories.

BL.

19% NYC government. Used to be 20% but they reduced to 19% a couple of years ago. Applies to primary voice line and data plans that are $25+.

AT&T refuse FAN discount on 3GB data?

Hi -
I interpret for the deaf - and ATT has decent data + text plan for Deaf. Also many people (like those on this thread) work for big companies and get FAN discounts.
Yesterday I went to ATT store with new iPhone buyer (Deaf person with text + data plan only) to find out why she did not get her FAN discount. (USPS employee) She had just received her first full month's bill for iPhone service and no 25% discount was applied.

We were told only the 5GB plan gets the discount - not the 3GB plan.

So, her USPS discount is worthless to her, but when I went with her to BUY the phone she was told she WOULD get the discount.

Anyone else having similar problems with no discount being given on DATA plan? Do you also work for USPS?

No, not calling you a liar. Just that sharing your AT&T discount on a FAN discount thread could be perceived negatively. :D i actually think its cool AT&T gives its employees such good discounts. When I worked for them many years ago, they didn't. But then again cellphones weren't very big back then... ;)

I use to work for AT&T back when it was Cingular and I got up to 3 free phone lines with 1000 minutes and unlimited mobile to mobile on each. We got steep discounts on accessories and always got the latest phones offered. I had a drawer full of GSM phones that I switched out to from week to week. Base plus commissions on the better reps like myself climbed closer to 6 figures. Aside from the phone deals now, their commission payout and base pay is crap now and is just barely Able to pay living expenses. You cannot support yourself let alone a family off of the sales reps pay and no free cell service or discount service and health benefits can make up or help you out.

U work for att directly? Or att authorized retailer? For the commission.

I worked direct. Then they drastically changed the commission structure. I had a friend in upper management and he said that AT&T's goal at the time was to have no rep making more that 48,000 a year with salary and commission combined. Now, take out your portion of the health insurance and taxes etc and it's barely a living wage.

Now, it's ok for college grads on their own and definitely good for the high schoolers but not worth considering if you have others to support.

You DO realize that you replied to a comment that he made November 2011, don't you?

Your blanket statement is meaningless and useless. "Living wage" varies GREATLY region-to-region because cost of living does.

A university professor in the south with a PhD will begin by earning the same as a doorman in New York City.

Look, my managers statement pertained to my region but their general consensus was to have the same degree or percentage cut in all the markets. Every market with AT&T is paid out differently but the cuts they do are percentage wise the same so....it does mean no one will be able to sustain a family on the wage cuts they did while I was working there. I hear people brag about how much they make now and laugh! Their kids, living at home supported by mommy and daddy or have a partner that the bread winner. This pertains to only retail sales with AT&T because management gets paid much more but they also throw a lot and I mean a lot of hours and responsibility on you for that pay.

Your writing is a bit hard to follow, but are you saying it's reasonable, then, to expect AT&T to pay REPS enough to sustain an ENTIRE family? I'm sorry, but that's a bit rich (and I care nil for AT&T).

Anyway, this is all off topic. Cheers.

Is anyone with these FAN discounts able to still upgrade with a subsidized 2 year contract?

I have a FAN discount and when I upgraded 1 of my lines I had to either do their stupid NEXT program or pay outright. I just paid full price of the phone and it ended up working out better as my monthly bill did actually drop.

So you think someone from the Post Office just read that and was like "We have to Match this users MacRumors Forum ID to a Wireless Account, then cut him off"
If it's the post office, then there will probably be thousands of these types of complaints and only 1 tech support rep handling it all at a turtles pace.
