so this is a 7200 rpm 320gb 2.5" sata drive? May have to pick one up for my PS3! If an apple service person installed this into a mbp, would the system still have warranty, just not the drive?
I wonder how much it will cost to have an Apple tech swap out my 250 for a 7200 320?
Apple won't do it.
They only do part for part repairs.
You will have to get an Apple certified tech to do it.
It will still have a warranty, but I hear that Apple only does part for part swaps/repairs. So you will have to find an Apple Authorized Tech to do it.
Some daring fools claim that you can do it yourself and not void the warranty, which is somewhat correct, but Apple can claim that you damaged the machine yourself if anything happens, and they find that you opened the case up yourself.
Thanks Skunks for calling me a daring fool.![]()
Yes- Apple Stores will not install your upgrades. I had a 12" G4 and wanted to swap out the 100 gig drive for a 250. They would not do it so I had to perform the upgrade myself.
I sort of understand where they are coming from.
It leaves plenty of opportunity for others to provide a worthwhile service.
If you are at all squeamish about opening a macbook pro or a powerbook, then get the expert. I have read so many posts from people with serious problems as a result of their own effort to install an upgrade.
so newegg has this drive now and i'm thinking about getting one...

this has the SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface... will that work in my macbook pro (2.33 c2d merom)? i'm pretty sure mine has a 1.5 Gb/s connector.
