So I couldn't wait or resist when I went to BestBuy to check it out again.

I'm happy for the most part but I've definitely already seen a beach ball while uploading a few photos to facebook and flickr from iPhoto. Didn't last two long.

BUT that's not to say this thing isn't fast. It's pretty darn responsive for its specs and size. A thousand times better than any netbook I've tried.

I think it might be a keeper.

What else is running? How much ram? Your post lacks general info suggesting you don't want a discussion and this is more of an FYI.

When you are uploading pictures you are using internet Connection Speed in the most part, so you can't really judge that the macbook air is slow in that matter as it is a bandwidth issue :)

When you see the spinning pin wheel. That is referred to as a beach ball.

It depends on whether iPhoto does the transfers in another thread or if it blocks the main thread until the upload is finished. I'm guessing it's the former, in which case the transfer itself shouldn't cause a beach ball.

That's lovely. I'm having a hard time finding decent desktop images in this size/resolution.

No beachballs here tho. Thank my lucky stars, I guess. ;)

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Could be the best buy network is slow. Don't expect a retailer to have the best Internet. They also have say about 25 computers there all sharing the same wifi (perhaps more for their managers office and security computers too...don't forget pos and credit card machines).

Should have clarified this was from my home network at 18mps. It probably was the connectivity. Everything seems so good so far.

OP you are suppose to see beachballs every now and then, that's normal for the system. Some apps like Garageband will automatically show the beachball during launching and multiple tabs will eat up ram. Also keep in mind your Macbook has only 2GB of ram and 256MB of it is dedicated to the GPU, some of it is hardwired and some of it runs the system which you cannot avoid. So regardless of the flash memory you can get a beachball when virtual memory is created. This is my main concern with people running out and getting the base model and not considering the amount of ram that will be used by the system outside of running apps.

I got the base model. It'll replace my iPad most probably. So far I've used iLife apps, MS Office and even CS3 and it's not noticeably struggled with anything. I love this thing!

If I want to do anything intensive, I'll use my I7 MBP but for anything else, this little baby is a dream.

Of course, in Vista and 7 it isn't an hourglass anymore, but a spinning hollow circle. ;)

This is my main concern too. There will be lots of people new to Apple who purchase the base Air as their first mac machine. I hope it performs well and doesn't give them the impression that Apple machines are slow.

This picture is amazingly perfect for the 11.6". I would love to have it on mine when I get it. Any possibility you could upload it in 1366x768 or something higher? :)
