Oh, it's not jsut being an Avs fan. I remember when I was a kid seeing Detroit pull some nasty shots.
Lemiuex? Yeah, he was pretty dirty. But I'm talking as a whole. Brad May on our team is pretty dirty, but he doesn't represent the whole team.
Neither does Maltby, et al.
All I'm saying is that although the Wings have had their share of goons/enforcers/dirty players (Kocur, Probert, Maltby, etc.) no team in the NHL, including the Avs, can or has existed without their own stable of goons/enforcers/dirty players.
I'm not excusing what Bertuzzi did, but Steve Moore certainly wasn't a saint either. I am by no means saying that he got what was coming to him, because they both played their parts as a villain, as far as I'm concerned.
Just like you said about Brad May, I understand the fact that he doesn't represent the entirety of the Avs... and neither does Claude Lemieux, as hard as it is for me to say it. In fact, the Avs have (and had) some of the most respected/cleanest players in the game don their sweater... Sakic and Bourque to name a couple.
That also holds true for the Wings... the Kocurs and Maltby's of the world do not represent the entirety of the Wings organization either. Nic Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, et al. were and are some of the cleanest, most respected players to have played the game at such a high level.
Long post, but to sum... every team has and will have its share of dirty players, that's just the nature of the game, no execptions. To say that any single team is the worst, is pretty far-fetched... I need only cite the names of Chris Simon, Dale Tucker and Marty McSorley to show that goons are/have been present on every team.
