Hey Oni,

Av's fan here too!!! But i'm in LA, so i get to watch the Av's when they come in to play the Kings. I went to the LA vs. AV's playoff game the year the AV's won. Game 6, double OT, 0-0. It was INTENSE!!! Too bad the Av's lost. But probably my greatest hockey experience i've had, maybe even sports experience.

Go Sabres!

Youngest team in the league should be interesting to watch this year. Young at every position with only 3 players 30 or over on the whole team (2 at 30 and Teppo Numienen at 37). I'm very excited about Tomas Vanek and Ryan Miller in goal. No matter what happens I get to hear Rick Jeanneret every game so I'll be happy!

Sabres!! Surprise team this year, they are gonna skate circles around old slow teams like the leafs and flyers! :p

WOOT! Av's are awesome. I am bummed about losing Forsberg (for those who don't know, he's quit epossibly the most talented player EVER). It might turn out good for the team though. People hated how talented he was and so they injured him every chance they got. HE hasn't played a whole lot the past couple of active seasons, which is a bummer, but he's ALWAYS great in the playoffs.

He was awesome. A complete hockey player. But, yeah, he's injured all the time now and his best years are probably behind him now. Another big loss is Adam Foote. gonna miss him.

Go Red Wings! :p Hockey is finally back, but I wish it were on TV more than it's going to be. Oh well, I guess the networks have to fill their schedules in advance.

No Flyers Fans???

I thought there'd be a few at least. I had to add OLN to my cable lineup just for hockey. I seriously think this could be the year for the Flyers.

Leafs fan here. Surprised there aren't more of us.

And I haven't followed hockey in 2 years now, mainly because I'm in Australia and it's hard to follow the team you love when you don't get to watch any of the games. :(

Anyway, hopefully Belfour isn't completely over the hill and has some game in him. I know he's still probably very good, but how good will he be by game 64, for example?

I hate TSN. I hate TSN. I hate TSN.

I understand that the leafs are important in Toronto. But to miss the first 10 minutes of the first Vancouver game so they can show people in Vancouver the Leafs/Ottawa overtime is stupid. Stupider is to continue not showing the game so you can do replays of the winning Ottawa goal.

Insult to injury is to sit in Vancouver, watching a home game and have to hear the announcers say things like "You don't get to see the western conference starts often, but they do have some good shooters" <paraphrased; I don't remember exactly what was said>

If you're not going to give a #$(* about anybody but TO why not just let a channel that's interested in the Vancouver market show the games. Sportsnet is more than happy to actually have knowledgeable play by play and show the entire game.

I just got back from the Canucks game. It was amazing!!! We beat Pheonix 3-2!!!!

It was so great, I forgot how exciting the games are. This was nothing like the pre-season games.

Anyone else go?

Just got back from the pub, watching it. Crap Nasland is amazing. Thought he was offside on that backhand though, but man, what a quick release. Nice job. Good to see the Habs win, though that was the weakest penalty call ever, but at least they capitalized, and thank the good lord the Sens won. I can not stand the leafs. And like stcanard said why the hell do we have to watch the bloody crappy leafs that only people in T.O. like, oh yeah they're the centre of the universe and everything revolves around them, forgot

I don't really have a favourite team, but if I was forced to choose I'd probably pick the Sens. I don't like Hasek one bit, but their skaters are top notch. The Hossa/ Heatley trade was awesome for Ottawa. Ottawa can do big things this year.

The Ottawa v. Toronto game was awesome tonight. I think it's funny how the leafs top three players are the three players they inked this summer. Lindros was the best free agent signing by any team, bang for the buck at least. He was a force this evening.

Yeah, for the price, he isn't much risk at all. If he's crap, don't resign him. Or maybe resign him and lose a few mil. But the potential pay-off was always massive.

Anyway, Leafs all the way. It's fate. :)

I'm still pissed at hockey for totally ****ing over its fans.

The Flyers-Rangers game saw Philly's ice with the words "Thank You Fans" but neglected to add "for completely being our bitches, you suckers. We take away the game you love for a whole year just so's we can break the union and you come running back to line our pockets"

I'll watch. I'll go to games. But I'll never forget what the Gary Bettman and the owners have done to the game.

Is it just me or are the Leafs the most hated team in the league? Is it because they are arguably the most popular team in the league? Above all the Leafs are my favorite team but I still have love for all the other Canadian teams, that is unless they are currently playing the Leafs.

GO LEAFS! :D

Agreed. I like the Sens, Canucks, Oilers, Flames, and even the Habs unless they're playing the Leafs. Its to support Canadian hockey teams, or at least teams that I see regularly on sports television in Canada.

I also like teams that some ex-leafs play on. ;)

And we're all glad you're taking such a strong stance. :p

caps 1-0. i feel like they may go 1-81. hah

:D I play left wing....just not on the canucks.

But I can dream

All the rinks have that same thing now. Except the Toronto, since they need to be special. They wrote Thank You Leafs Fans.

possibly.

Is it because they are arguably the most popular team in the league?

For significant portions of the last season the Canucks were drawing a larger TV audience than the Leafs.

Honestly, if the Leafs want to be less hated then they need to make sure that crap like last night isn't pulled, where on the radio I'm hearing them talk about a great save Cloutier made, which I never did see because on the TV I'm watching the Leafs doing nothing for five minutes because of a stoppage in play.

They even had the gall to tell us not to worry we wouldn't miss a minute of "our game" but they wanted to show the Canucks getting on the ice. They said that to a Vancouver audience. "Our Game" is apparently two teams that I will only see once this year, not the one that is played my the team in my city.

Understand that my frustration is magnified by the fact that TSN does this consistently.

Didn't go, but watched in on TV. Great to see it back.

Even better to see that Naslund hasn't lost anything ... those were two amazing goals. I'd love to see more breakaway goals like that!

The Canucks were a bit out of sync, but put a couple of games under their belt and they will be flying!

A lot of people in this thread are so negative. Of course they are going to cut off the opening minutes of the canucks game to show overtime of another, wake up! Furthermore, I don't see a point on dwelling on the past. It's unhealthy. Last night was the most exciting regular season hockey game I've ever seen. The tempo was fantastic. I think a year off was great, because I was getting sick of hockey on TV. It was boring. I love the new off ice systems as well as the on ice systems. Hockey is going to be exciting again.

I dunno if anyone got to watch the Avs VS. Canucks last night, but it was funny as hell. It was in our home, and whenever Bertuzzi got on the ice, all you heard was BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! from the fans. LMFAO.

We kicked their asses. 6-2. We play them again. I almost had tickets for this next game, where I was gonna have a sign read "HEY BERTUZZI, HOLD MY POCKET!" There were a lot of good hits on them, too.

Not being biased here, because I'm a fan. But I think the Avs are some of the cleanest players around. It's not often you see them starting crap. 'Course we can argue about Moore's hit, but the retalliation was far worse. Detroit is probably by far the WORST as far as cheap shots. I've never liked them. Skeezy bastards.

I'm glad to see the Penguins finally won a game. lmfao Worst team in the league. If we nail the Canucks again on Saturday, I think its gonna put a dent in their playing for a while.

I can understand your bias as an Avs fan, but I seem to remember one especially skeezy bastard named Claude Lemieux. Don't be so jaded to think that your Avs don't play or have played just as dirty as any other team in the NHL... everyone is going to try (and has tried) to get away with as much as they can, especially with everyone still adjusting to the new rules.

Oh, it's not jsut being an Avs fan. I remember when I was a kid seeing Detroit pull some nasty shots.

Lemiuex? Yeah, he was pretty dirty. But I'm talking as a whole. Brad May on our team is pretty dirty, but he doesn't represent the whole team.

Neither does Maltby, et al.

All I'm saying is that although the Wings have had their share of goons/enforcers/dirty players (Kocur, Probert, Maltby, etc.) no team in the NHL, including the Avs, can or has existed without their own stable of goons/enforcers/dirty players.

I'm not excusing what Bertuzzi did, but Steve Moore certainly wasn't a saint either. I am by no means saying that he got what was coming to him, because they both played their parts as a villain, as far as I'm concerned.

Just like you said about Brad May, I understand the fact that he doesn't represent the entirety of the Avs... and neither does Claude Lemieux, as hard as it is for me to say it. In fact, the Avs have (and had) some of the most respected/cleanest players in the game don their sweater... Sakic and Bourque to name a couple.

That also holds true for the Wings... the Kocurs and Maltby's of the world do not represent the entirety of the Wings organization either. Nic Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, et al. were and are some of the cleanest, most respected players to have played the game at such a high level.

Long post, but to sum... every team has and will have its share of dirty players, that's just the nature of the game, no execptions. To say that any single team is the worst, is pretty far-fetched... I need only cite the names of Chris Simon, Dale Tucker and Marty McSorley to show that goons are/have been present on every team.

Canadiens fan here (go Habs!). They seem to be doing well now, but I don't know how long that will last.
I can't support the Avalanche, as I followed them when they were the Quebec Nordiques. They sucked back then, but they were our team. Ahh, the memories at the good ol' Colisée...
That was a long time ago, but I'm still bitter.
