Hold at FedEx Location? First Mac!

Hey All

I ordered my first Macbook shortly after store opened on the 22nd! I've been following the massive "Waiting for Haswell MBP Mega Thread" for about 3 months and I'm extremely excited to get my 15"/2.6/16/512 FINALLY!

I received my Shipment Notification early this morning and opted to have it held at a FedEx location of my choice so I wouldn't have to wait all day for a random delivery time. Figured I can go pick it up early Wednesday morning when they open and bring it back to work (expecting to get absolutely no work done that day 😀). Have any of you had your Macbooks held at a FedEx location for pick up and experienced any problems?

Is the package available 1 day later, or at the close of business? The FedEX service is International Economy. I went to FedEX's webpage and wasn't able to determine if this pushes out the delivery date.

FedEx Priority Overnight and FedEx 1Day Freight shipments normally are available for pickup by 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. (Monday–Friday) the next business day after shipment at most FedEx locations. FedEx Standard Overnight shipments normally are available for pickup by noon the next business day. FedEx 2Day A.M. shipments normally are available for pickup by 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. (Monday–Friday) the second business day after shipment at most FedEx locations. FedEx 2Day, FedEx Express Saver, FedEx 2Day Freight and FedEx 3Day Freight shipments normally are available by noon (Monday–Friday) on the scheduled day of delivery at most FedEx locations. (Hold at FedEx Location is not available for FedEx SameDay® or FedEx First Overnight®.) Different pickup times may apply for Hold at FedEx Location shipments in Alaska and Hawaii. Go to Find FedEx Locations to confirm Hold at FedEx Location pickup times.

So after you scared me a little bit 😱 thinking I might have to wait another day to receive my Macbook, I ended up giving FedEx a call.

FYI to all who chose this option: Having your package held at your nearest FedEx location will not push out the delivery/pick-up date. He said my package will arrive on the date it's supposed to and I will be able to pick it up in the morning when the facility opens. I gave him my email address and they will email me once the package is available at the facility.

Since my FedEx shipping facility is only 2 miles away... I'll have my Macbook bright and early instead of waiting around for them to deliver! 😀

I tried the same approach with my iMac back in 2010. Drove to FedEx and they loaded it on the truck for delivery. Got back to my house to see a "missed delivery" slip. Fedex had me wait to sort the packages until the next morning.

Just be wary its not always smooth but it seems like you have it all lined up.

Well hopefully I don't have the same experience. After calling them and giving them my email/phone number and having him double check that everything was done correctly, it gave me a little more confidence that they won't screw it up.

Fedex says that I will receive mine BEFORE 10:30AM 🙂

By mistake, I selected a FedEx Office (Kinko's) location instead of the FedEx Ship Center. I assumed that FedEx would not deliver my MBP to the FedEx Office location until the afternoon (when they pick up packages).

This morning, I called the FedEx Office location around 10AM to see when FedEx comes by for their afternoon pickups.

FedEx delivery driver was there! He was dropping off Express packages! Which included mine 🙂 It seems FedEx stops by the FedEx Office locations between 9 - 10AM each morning.

Within 5 minutes, I had my 2.6.

Though I recommend picking up from the FedEx Ship Center, FedEx Office is another alternative... I live in DMV - I usually avoid having to go to the Alexandria FedEx Ship Center, as they have less than stellar customer service.

Nice! Yeah I had mine held at my local shipping facility and picked it up this morning @ 9am. I definitely recommend this option if you live close to a facility.
