Keeping mine. I love it! I was concerned that the popping might damage the speakers, but with the update I no longer get popping in my use case, although I realize the issue hasn't yet been fixed.

I see some people are returning their initial 16” and replacing it with a different spec. Is it at simple as waiting 5 days or so for the initial return to clear then ordering a different one

Am thinking of swapping for a slightly lower spec.

How did you get Best Buy to sell for $2399? It is showing as $2799 on the web. Amazon is $2549
You can price match it using an app like ShopSavvy.
Lowest they show tho is 2549 at B&H and amazon tho. Best Buy will price match that. Just pull out the app and boom they will match it!

I bought mine just before the holiday period began, but I would have kept it anyway. 2.4 6-core/16/512 base unit. No popping. Bright, accurate screen. Best trackpad on any Mac I've ever owned. No problems at all.

I agree with everything here but the popping - it is not fixed and this holds for all units. You can bring popping back by going to audio middi settings -> external speakers and setting the format to 44khz. On 48khz and up it is reduced and at 96khz its the least present but even then it is still there on media creation apps like Logic and Muse Score.

Should I return mine with this coconutBattery readings??

During the holiday I ordered a high end BTO model with 64GB RAM but with the Intel's latest announcement of new CPU and USB4, I am considering to get an i9-2.3, 32GB, 4GB VRAM and 1TB base model as a temporary machine and see how it goes. Is this better than just get the high end model now? My order has not been shipped yet. Note that we still don't know if the new keyboard will be issue-free. How likely will MBP 16" with USB4 be available for purchase this year?

Keyboard has been out long enough to be confident its just as issue free as the keyboards pre butterfly. The 3rd gen butterfly has issues on release.

I really want to keep this machine. Despite the ghosting I love how thin it is, the big sharp screen, most of the time it’s pretty snappy and has a lot of power. But I want to do audio and music related work on the go; the update DID NOT fix the popping and switching it to 96khz only helps in YouTube and ITunes. When running musescore I can trigger a cascade of pops and I’m afraid they will damage the computer. Having to readjust to windows or Linux would really suck since there’s a lot about Mac OS I really like that windows isn’t as good at - like time machine, a sexy UI and dpi scaling. No idea what to do but I need to make a choice soon.

I handed mine back a few days ago. Worked almost flawlessly and smashed everything I threw at it for 5 weeks or so of trialing. Battery life / fan noise was a bit of a bind. Biggest issue for me was Windows 10 Pro failing to boot several times via Parallels 15. Bit of a known issue among the Parallels community but not entirely recognised by the vendor. That annoyed me a lot and has me doubting the longevity of using a MBP with Win again.

FTR I returned it because at nearly £4k (with AC) I simply couldn't justify the cost. Sure, I could reframe it as an investment (as I'm a contractor) but the reality for me was it's way too overpriced. Also, my current employer said they would get me a MBP but I'm not entirely convinced that's going to happen.

Currently back to using my Air and Surface Pro while looking for a secondhand 13" to see me through the next few months in the hope something cool drops.

For the Parallels-Windows issue, is it for all users or only for some?

This https://forum.parallels.com/threads/cant-open-windows-10-stuck-on-spinning-device.347580/ is the type of issue I and many others have encountered. Initially I found a way to fix it, possibly more by luck than judgment. Then it began again and I couldn't sort it no matter what I did. Only option was to reinstall Win 10 Pro. Couldn't be faffed with that and took the hit on not backing up the last few edits I made that day.

Tread with caution.

Thanks. Have you tried Fusion? I used to use Fusion. It was very good. However, from recent posts, it seems that Parallels is better nowadays although their support is as bad as 10 years ago.
