Well can I hate it and love it?

I got back with this girl, however can't see her for 2 weeks.

I hate the incessant TV "specials".

I hate the enormous deluge of newspaper flyers and commercials.

I hate the constant music in the mall that make me sick of Christmas carols by the time the day actually arrives.

I hate the crush of people traffic in the mall. (It's driven me to buy online.)

I hate that the stores make their employees work all kinds of dumb hours. (Did you know that some stores, like CompUSA, are open tonight, Thanksgiving night, just so they can sell stuff?

I hate the pressure to buy lots of stuff.

I hate that stores put up this stuff so early that it makes the day itself seem almost anti-climactic.

I hate the fact that the secular holiday has almost completely taken over from the religious one.

And this year, I get to hate that I'll be spending time with some relatives who I found out don't care for me very much.

Believe it or not, I like Christmas, the decorating and stuff...but it's like the holiday is a sweet candy center at the heart of a thick manure coating.

Downer in bed? She will be pleased. :)

Well, there are worse people I could find in my bed.

Same here. I've got a girl friend this year but she will be 400 miles away with her family for two weeks. :(
Aw, at least she's closer. My BoyThing™ is 1600 miles away... but I have a new cell coming today and we can talk mobile to mobile for free! :) how much longer until spring break, my lime?

This is the most accurate thing I've read about the holidays EVER.

Usually it reminds me that I'm alone. I don't like it.

agreed. It was really fun a coupla years ago, when I got to see both my mom and dad and my old buddy from college. We'd wind up at my uncle's house, shooting pool and drinking beer. But those days are pretty much over, since we're all so spread out and otherwise engaged. Now it's just kind of boring.

truthfully, the one thing I really can't stand is that nothing is open on Christmas day. You wind up spending the whole day inside, and there's not a d@mn thing to do. It'd be a lot more fun if you could hit the stores/restaurants. You know, get out of the house and live a little, which in real life is something you don't get a chance to do too often.

My wife and I decorated this weekend.
Indoor only (so far) and no tree as we'll probably be heading out of town for the holiday.

Oh, and..

I love Christmas. I love most holidays, although I'm not so big on Halloween. We just put up our tree, though it's not decorated yet (probably do that tonight), and I've been looking for presents, though I'm being horrible at coming up with ideas this year. I like giving gifts though, even though I'm a bit strapped for cash, and of course getting some of my own doesn't hurt. I dunno though, I've always liked making people smile, so this season is generally a great one for me.

I love the way the holidays make people feel happy, and I love the colors and the lights and the songs... but I also find it triggering because it makes me face how I don't belong. My parents don't celebrate any holidays that take place at this time of year. And I never really feel like I "belong" to the holidays. But there are some parties that make me really happy and I get to see my friends and see them smile. And we have a party for the kids at camp. So I don't really hate the holidays... I just find them...triggering.

I like baking, I like having my friends over to help decorate and then ordering pizza. I like making fudge. I do not like the obligatory time it takes to spend with the fam watching football and visiting unitl you puke.

I like going home and having a nice dinner with my husband and dancing in the living room and lighting every single candle in the house, staying up too late to play with our Mac toys and having a stellar bottle of wine.

Should I cound "hate" and "indifferent" in the same group?
If so.. it's a DEAD EVEN race at 46.27% Pro & 46.27% Con.

Are you done with your shopping yet? I'm almost done. And I've managed to avoid the malls and crowds COMPLETELY.

Christmas: not a good time for those alone or who are unwell.

Couldn't care less about the religious aspect and usually make more of a close friend's birthday a couple of days beforehand. This year I'll probably be staying at a friend's place or just spending it at home mooching around the flat with a nice bottle of something. The biggest gift of all is not having to go to work for a few days...

Not really humbuggish, just think it's something for kids and families.
