Home and lock screen battery drain?

My battery life has been dire recently, I checked what was causing this and it seem to be home and lock screen, why is this happening? How do I fix it?

long screen lock settings (along with simply playing with the device at the home screen, i do it, & i know im not alone) is the cause of this.
