isn’t apple going to solve this problem?
This problem has been since ios 11. It really sucks. Every device that I’ve used got that problem. When I press the home buttom it last 1-2 seconds to close the app, and it feels very stuttering and laggy, and weak at ram management. Of course, ios 12 make this better, and solved it a little. But still there. Maybe cause ios 12 stills beta. I hope the GM solve this problem completely. What do you think?

The delay after clicking the home button is due to the system waiting to see if you're going to do a double or tripple click.
The delay is greater if you have tripple click enabled as an accessibility option, and you can also (as an accessibility option) change how long the delay is, in case you are incapable of double-clicking quickly enough for the normal system

I guess it's done on purpose so the home button seems like old technology and the new models better and faster.

The home button is flawless on my 5s on iOS 10 but the delay was the first thing I noticed when I got an SE on iOS 11.

Then, after the home button gets worse and worse on your device, you get an iPhone X, Xs, 9, whatever they're gonna call all the new Face ID models and voila! You won't miss it at all.

It’s planned obsolescence by Apple to get everyone to buy iPhone X. Nothing can be done unfortunately.

I wonder if your phone has an issue, because I don't notice an unusual delay when pressing the home button.

Have you tried setting up as a new device?

Yeah this. On iOS 10, the reaction time was almost too fast. There were times where you would double click, and it would bring you to the home screen first, and then to the multitasking view. The slight delay fixes this problem.

Yep. That's exactly why it's there. It fixes a janky double animation.

This problem is unlikely to be fixed as my year old bug report is still marked as open. Now that Apple has shifted all iPhone to the X design, all resources will be diverted to improving the gestures. My recommendation if you find it troublesome like I did is to get the iPhone X or the XR. Personally I found the delay unbearable so I upgraded to the X last December which has instant response.

I am one of those who are extremely sensitive to issues like this so your mileage may vary.
