My home button intermittently stops working (iPhone 4)I've tried the following fixes:
Sync- fixes it for awhile
Turn off and back on- sometimes fixes it
Deleted files to make more room- no change
Restart- can't when the home button isn't working but I restart frequently when it is and seems to make no difference
Complete restore using a backup- no change.

My last effort will be to restore to factory without using a backup copy. I'll download all apps fresh from the App store.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

DIY repair, home button is an easy fix.

Mine has always been dodgy.

I took off the back panel earlier just to see inside, and after putting it back on my button works fine

This tip definitely works. Thanks for saving me a trip to the Apple Store.

When I went to the Apple store they told me the entire front button and front glass would need to be replaced to fix this. My phone is out of warranty, so they would do me the favor of only charging $199 for a refurbished phone. Then I found this which totally fixed the issue with my button. What a joke!

my ipod touch 4's home button also isnt very responsive. i had to enable assitive touch in the accessibility options so i can use a virtual home button. rather then push the actual home button, you press one that appears on the itouch's screen. it gets the job done. makes my ipod useable at least.
