It may be a "sweet spot" for you, but not for everyone. That's why Apple is building 2 different sizes.
It is the future sweet spot and standard size. So many will regret getting a 4.7".

I didn't know you were the expert.![]()
I don't think they could get rid of the home button in the sense of relying solely on touch ID. We know that it's spotty (reports say as does my wife who has a 5s) but it's also brand new for the iPhone.
I recently burned my thumb and tried to unlock her phone (my thumb is set up to do so) and it wouldn't recognize me. So if Apple did away with the physical button, I wonder how that would work?
I'm not saying it's a bad idea... just that I can see circumstances when the physical button is preferred.
NO, like others said the Home button ha become part of the iPhone branding and can't go, especially since the release of TouchID.
Even if Apple were to remove the button, how much more screen space will you really have? I dont think its worth it. If Apple were to put the Home button and TouchID on the back couldn't a lawsuit be fied against them since LG already has a home button on the back? or no?
plastic covering is still over the whole button. I use assistive TOUCH exclusively. Sleep button and onscreen home button. I LOVE it. you get used to it.![]()

Dress accordingly, or purchase a manbag.
You've just so clearly articulated why "monster phones" will fail.
Anything over 4 needs to be something other than a phone first.
Note - sketchbook with phone being prime example.
The sweet spot for "phone with benefits" is 4 or below as the sales numbers show.
Touch ID does NOT have to be part of the home button assembly, and nor does the home button have be a big old mechanical dinosaur.
