How do I set a home page, one that appears every time I open Safari and can return to from time to time when using Safari, on my iPad 3?

Newbie here, and frustrated by much of the wonder of the iPad....

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

As far as I'm aware, you can't.

You could however find the site you want as a homepage, click the little arrow at the top and press 'add to home screen' - then you can launch Safari through this.

Doing that works, but comes with some drawbacks:

Safari limits / disables some of its functions when invoked that way, because it assumes that you want to focus your interaction with that one site, and not necessarily go to others you've bookmarked - basically treating the home screen entry as a web app. This is very similar to how Chrome and IE 9 (both on Windows only) handle web apps saved to your desktop.

I've found this only happens with some sites. There is actually a few lines of HTML code you can add to a website so that Safari treats it as a web app, the rest of the time it is simply treated as a normal website.
