I’m getting really tired of this bug sticking around. It’s been broken since iOS 16 at some point and I’m making this thread to bring more attention to it and to make more people aware that it’s even broken because you might not even know.

So in the video above, you see how it’s working perfectly as intended until you swipe to your App Library or swipe left to the widget screen. The icons will then stop moving completely (except for the notification badges for some dumb reason) until you restart your device.

One thing to note is that swiping down for search doesn’t break it and it will continue to work just as long as you don’t look at the App Library or the dedicated widget page (widget screen from the lock screen is okay though).

I first noticed this glitch because at some point I didn’t see my icons moving and I thought maybe they had ditched this “feature” but then I was watching a video on YouTube from that Brandon guy “what’s up guys, my name is Brandon and today we’re going to talk about iOS 17.3 beta 4”.

Anyways, in one of his videos he had his screen recording as he talked and waved his phone around. I saw his icons moving and it made me curious as to how he got it to work. So I restarted my iPhone and sure enough I had the movement back. Then a few minutes later they were still again and I was baffled. So I kept an eye on when exactly they stopped and that’s when I saw the trend. When I swiped left or right on the Home Screen, they would stop until I restarted. I’ve reported this bug and they have yet to fix it (if they even will, knowing Apple).

What do y’all think of this bug? I wish they’d just at least give us a way to turn it off without using low power mode.
It is still not fixed in iOS 18... I can't believe how many bugs were introduced in iOS 16 and many have seemingly not even been noticed. It surely can't be hard to fix something as simple as this at all, they just haven't assigned anyone to fixing it for some reason. I'm sure they have a bug report for it somewhere but maybe they have too many bug reports because out of all the bug reports I've made not a single one has been seen, despite some being pretty severe. The search thingie at the bottom also has working parallax, it's only the app icons and widgets themselves that stop moving for some super odd reason. Swiping into the app drawer itself doesn't break it, but if you let go so the app drawer is fully in view and then swiping back, that's when it stops working. I'm sure I can fix it for them if I worked at Apple, there are hundreds of these small bugs in iOS that 99% of people don't even notice but it bothers me incredibly much. I wish they pulled a Snow Leopard move and just did a year of perfecting the OS, remove the most bothersome bugs and do some performance improvements.

I agree. I reported this with all the details on how to reproduce it every time and video evidence and they still refuse to listen. Funnily enough it was fixed in one of the early iOS 18 betas but broke again after that haha.

This can only be explained with complete ignorance or even stupidity - simple as that!

My love has finally ended...

Do you really believe, a company, not even able to fix something as easy and basic like this, is able to reliably fix a severe security issue responsible?

Their security response isn't really that great admittedly but UI issues and security issues are addressed to very different teams so this has absolutely zero bearing on how Apple deals with security issues.

Same behavior as in iOS 18. It breaks as soon as you go to the App Library or widgets screen.
Don't you think Apple would've noticed by now that their brand new effects break? I mean do they just never look at the App Library or something?
