anyone have some suggestions for a home security system? Not sure hoe extensive I want to go. Was thinking just a camera that covers the front entryway, maybe another to have all doors covered. But considering something to maybe tell me if a door is opened and things like that too.

Just wondering what you guys have used and what I go anyone can provide. My main hope would be to have a camera that would send an alert and either a pic of video to my iPhone if someone enters.

Vivint? my wife and I got it when we bought our house in March. really like it. has a doorbell camera that will alert us if someone is in the viewing area and rings the doorbell. you can also speak to the person through the doorbell speaker using the app on your iPhone. we also have a camera in side our living room. records video clips on movement. the app will alert you on an intrusion (we've tripped it a few times on accident). we also have our thermostat linked to it and can adjust the temp as needed. also can adjust the temp for week days and weekends. I still want to get a 24hr surveillance camera for around my house. we live in a good neighborhood but you never know what you'll see or what will happen.

I'll look into Vivint. I don't want too complicated, no thermo or doorbells, etc. Just camera and maybe sensors that would detect opening doors or movement. I'm even considering a wildlife camera that sends pics to email or text.

Simply Safe? That will cover your alarm.

You can get some dlink cameras that are wifi and will send you alerts on motion. If you watch slickdeals you can usually get them for about 20 bucks.

Someone else recommended Simplisafe to me too. They look pretty good. I'm close to ordering a system from them. Thanks for that suggestion and the d-link camera idea too.

got the arlo too. Night vision's good and has this alarm too. But I think ring's FL is better. Arlo's alarm is with the base. I think it should have been with the camera.

I bought into SimpliSafe when I moved into my house this past summer. For the money, it’s a great system. I bought two keypads (front door and garage entrance) as well as two interior cameras that activate when your system is armed in away mode (apertures remain visibly closed when home or off), a motion detector, glass break sensor, two keychain remote controls and door sensors for all entrances.

All of this was in the $550 range and installation/setup was a piece of cake.
