Hey guys, just wanted to see what you all used for some home studios, like equipment and such. I am looking to start gathering equipment over the next year and start producing and recording my own stuff. Maybe some ideas on start up equipment.

Also I have been a pro tools user for a long time, now I am leaning towards picking up logic as well. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I all depends on WHAT you are recording. Do you have a grand piano, acoustic guitar or a vocalist? Is one of the instruments a MIDI keyboard? What about drummer? Is it a real kit or electronic drums.

You have to give some use cases.

As for advice, start simple then take small steps. But you want to know your goals so you don't have to replace equipment and have a growth path.

The next question is the space, where is this going

I currently use

Novation Slii MK 2

2 x Genelec 500 Watt monitors

Logic X

2 XRode pro PP mics

Am currently looking at the new Behringer USB mixer having recently sold my previous mixing/ mastering unit.

All my guitar work is my own, and vocals are my own also making the mixer with PP essential, but the break is giving me a chance to get used to the new interface in Logic X. OP, if you are starting out, I'd use Gargeband first prior to purchasing expensive apps you may not need.

Yeah it's really a matter of budget, available space, allowed level of noise-making and most of all the type of material you'll be working on!

But posting your setup is fun, so here's mine! :D

  • Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 interface
  • Yamaha HS80m studio monitors on Auralex mo-pads
  • Auralex roominator acoustic treatment
  • Novation Impulse 61 / NI Maschine Mikro mk2 controllers
  • Shure, AKG, Rode and Oktava microphones
  • Shure SRH840 / Shure SE535 / Sennheiser HD-25 headphones
