I have a HomeKit automation set to turn the lights off at my home when I leave. It works fine when I am the only one set in the automation. When I change the automation to "The Last of X People Leave" so it takes my kids in to account it does not. I've checked my kids' location information, and they are sharing their locations with their phones, not with some other devices that stay at the house. This has been the case since iOS 12 and still is the case with iOS 13. I have an Apple TV acting as a hub at home.

I'm wondering if there is a way to debug this? Can you see what the automations are seeing as far as location information so you can figure out where the problem may be?

I can’t get an automation that says, turn on a light 15 minutes before sunset then keep it on for 20 minutes, to work. Once the light turns on 15 minutes before sunset, it stays on.
This is been a problem since ios 13.0.

My automations for my wife returning home work perfect. Anything with a timer seems to be an iffy situation.

To leave, I just made a simple scene called "Goodbye" and invoke it with Siri or through Home app. It works fine, though not fully automated.

I spent my career as an engineer designing transmission automation for utilities. I am baffled why timed functions are so hard to setup (convoluted) and then cannot be counted on to work most of the time. This is basic automation.

I have 10 Leviton dimmers, 23 Leviton switches and they are a hit or miss responding since going to iOS 13. Could be Leviton since my Linkwise outlets and Yale locks are rock solid. My Rachio also becomes unreachable as well.

There is no good debugging tool that I'm aware of. I use an application called Controller for HomeKit that helps, but not a debug tool. As far as location data, it all goes to Apple's server as a service, so it should determine the location of all the folks in your house with iPhones/iPads with location services enabled. I would turn off location services on all devices but one and see if that works, then build on this by enabling each device in stages.

Apple needs to step up and get this working as it should, it just is not that hard.

I've got timers (turn on outside lights at sunset, turn everything off at 1am, etc.) and those work every time flawlessly. At least they haven't missed that I've noticed. I've also got a location based automation that turns on the a couple lights when the first person gets home and it's after sunset. The only one that isn't working is the turn everything off when the last person leaves one.

It's maddening that there is no way to troubleshoot.

what suggestions do you guys have if location based automations aren't working at all? I had a devil of a time getting all my switches added to my homekit so I would rather not have to go through that again.

i have an OMNA cam that I had set up to turn on outdoor lights when the camera detected motion after dark. But now that has stopped working since updating OS. I tried deleting the accessory from the home app but that didn’t help.
