HomeKit-Enabled Eve Aqua Gains Thread Support

I wish I had something like this for my fish pond, 15 years ago.
Eve Systems today announced the launch of a redesigned version of the Eve Aqua, a HomeKit-enabled smart home device designed to automate irrigation systems and convert standard outdoor faucets into smart water outlets.
The Eve Aqua water controller is able to automatically activate an irrigation system using the Home app on the iPhone, the Eve app, Siri voice commands, or a physical button on the device itself.
The third-generation Eve Aqua includes Thread support for improved reliability and reach when used with other Thread-compatible devices. It activates and shuts off automatically, with no internet connection, bridge, or gateway required for functionality, and it runs off of 2 AA batteries.
Eve Systems says that the new Eve Aqua has been redesigned with a sleeker look that features a space gray body and matte black front, along with a brass faucet connector and magnetic valve for improved durability, leak protection, and quieter operation.
The new Eve Aqua is available today for $149.95 from the Eve website.

A few strategically placed sprinklers, and this would be great for when mormons, Jehovas witness (both have locations near my home and endlessly show up uninvited), solicitors, or the neighbors cat approach and being able to "deter" the visit. 
You'd have to have a camera alert you in time....but it could work.
PS. Not a mean human being. People ignore the no solicitors signs. Really irritating when you work from home and your meeting is interrupted.

For those that have the previous version and have leaking problems, I recommend putting plumbers putty over all of the connections. And cake that crap on there. It solved all my leak problems. Also as others have said, the privious model already had thread support. This article is inaccurate. At $150 for the new version, I think I’ll stick with my previous version.

Truly, I envy the people with lawns with built-in, underground lawn irrigation systems!
I’ve been stuck using Orbit B-Hyves until I gather up the will to get an in-ground system. I think I’ll do that next year. That and the redesigned valve. I'm bummed out that I bought the previous version just a month ago. Sometimes you read reviews and people complain about x or y and you take it with a grain of salt, but the plastic threads really are terrible (had to edit what I really wanted to say). Worst case scenario, the day after you leave for vacation the thing falls off the faucet and you go through tens of thousands of gallons of water destroying who knows what. Valve failure would be about the same. Neither of these have happened to me, but I'm concerned enough to buy the new one and trash the one I just bought. I really like the product, despite my experience. I read the reviews and took my chances as I needed one right now. HomeKit and thread support are big features for me.

Seriously, this thing is really useful for those of us with old-school sprinkler systems that use a traditional hose spigot to run, but whatever absolute FOOL decided that plastic fittings were acceptable needs to be public shamed. Wish I had $150 laying around to upgrade mine...
I am using them like since 5+years ago when I purchased the first model even without thread protocol. I have never had any issue, they work perfectly fine, batteries last for ages, as for plastic threads the whole of Gardena line uses them since... ever... And the redesigned valve needs a minimum differential pressure for it to work with the new one.
Big issue with physical consctruction too. the threads for in and out are abs plastic and extremely fragile and it looks like this has not been improved here. Unacceptable for this price point - expected at least brass insert on inlet.
Supposedly they added an insert on this one, but the threads are incredibly shallow looking
