Never got the obsession with America and ice cold temperatures and a million ice cubes in a drink for that matter lol

One simply should not come back home from a Miami summer with a cold!

One does not get sick from being cold. Quite the opposite... heat breeds disease and bacteria. And Scientific Room Temperature is 20 C/68 F. Max is 25/77. Most settle around 23/74. None of those temperatures are cold.

And warm water is nasty.

I am amazed you still have these AC units in the states, cheap but fugly.
Here most are split AC units or the movable AC units with a tube to the outside.

They sure are fugly, but attractiveness isn't everything. The movable AC units with two tubes are inefficient and not very effective compared to a window unit. The movable AC units with single tube are so inefficient and so ineffective that they are basically a complete waste of time and money--I basically had to have mine blowing directly on me and the electricity cost was mind-blowing.

I do like the split units, but I got a quote for that and it was over $6,000 in my 1-story house. My friend with his 3-story house required a ton more work and his quote was $12,000. You can imagine that a lot more people can afford $300 for a window unit, and they can hide it away in the garage when its not hot.

Nowadays you can also buy split AC units for a DIY job, lots cheaper than needing a professional installer.
I actually thought AC units were fairly cheap in the states.
I can get a split AC Unit for a medium sized room for as little as €400-500 here in Europe.

Though Lowe's is charging $319, the GE site says the MSRP for the device is $269, so it may be prudent to wait for a sale.

fwiw, i bought one of these at Lowe’s in Brooklyn.. i showed customer service the GE link/msrp and they sold it to me for that price.
