IKEA has started rolling out a HomeKit software update for its FYRTUR electric blinds, part of its TRADFRI line of smart home products.

Multiple users on Reddit have indicated receiving a new 1.10.28 firmware update for their TRADFRI gateway, which allows IKEA smart home products to work with platforms like HomeKit. The rollout appears to be starting in the United States, so users in other countries may not see the firmware update yet.

Following the firmware update, the blinds should automatically appear as tiles in the Home app across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. HomeKit support enables users to raise or lower the blinds using the Home app or Siri, in addition to existing support for Google Home and the IKEA Home app.

FYRTUR blinds start at $129, while the TRADFRI gateway retails for $35.

(Thanks, Brandon Smith!)

Nice, at last! Unfortunately not showing the update on my app yet.

Ironically I set up HomeBridge over the winter break to solve this problem and they've been working great. I have the shades automated to open close with sunrise/sunset, works with Siri and even shows the battery level.

Great....but, those blinds come in set sizes, if your windows size differs you are out of luck.
They should have the possibility to order in the exact size you want.

And there's another problem, light bleed, if you like to sleep in the dark then these won't work, you need guide rails.

Apparently ikeas HomeKit implementation does not show you the battery level. So maybe keep your homebridge setup

This would be a budget option on the scale of things. If you want to spend more look to Lutron. Homekit compatible and higher end. I would use these for things like doors or windows in common areas versus a bedroom where you want more light control.

Higher end as in 5 times more expensive.
There's a market here, Pretty sure Ikea could do this for maybe 50% on top of the base price, which is still cheap.
But then again, no premium materials, it's not bad quality, just basic.

Good point, also the Tradfri->HomeKit link has been pretty unstable in older software revisions, in that lights would stop responding to HomeKit and the Ikea gateway had to be power cycled or even reset. I haven't seen these sort of problems with the HomeBridge setup. Of course, HomeBridge is a little more complicated to set up...

Feel free to cut them to your favourite size, check out 6-8 month old youtube clip about it

That has actually been greatly improved. I haven’t restarted the hub for at least a year.

The name is “Trådfri”, not “Tradfri”. “Tråd” means thread or wire in Swedish. Tradfri makes no sense at all. 😂

Ow how to make these BIGGER to fit wider windows? Is there YouTube video for that?

Just kidding...

Anyone using these with Alexa? I know this is not an Amazon forum, but I do use the Alexa app on my iPhone. :) And I am curious.

Agree they should be able to be ordered with exact sizes! Cutting them will not make them bigger, they need to offer bigger sizes too, and what about sliding glass door sizes?

What are guide rails for?

Update works well, though it did dump all the groups I created in home app for multiple IKEA light bulbs in multi-lamp light fixtures, which also removed them from scenes. But the shades work great.
