I test-drove a Vivint security camera system this last week, and as an inexperienced user discovered some things about it that prompted me to cancel - the biggest complaint being that it wasn't capable of feeding camera imagery to a TV on a continuous basis. Mirroring the Vivint app display from my iphone or ipad screen to a TV would time out after a few minutes with a "are you still watching" dialog. And of course, screen mirroring monopolizes the phone - you can't multitask without losing the security camera feed. Which leads to my question: if I were to set up Homekit Secure Video cameras with a Apple TV as a hub, is it possible to watch the cameras *on the TV* to which the Apple TV is connected (as opposed to on an iphone) and just leave the the imagery up and running on the TV indefinitely?

Probably overly optimistic, but an Apple TV app that would display continuous live thumbnails of multiple cameras, with an option to select one feed and just keep it running? Or maybe rotating thru the available cameras? Pop up a feed in case of a doorbell ring or person/vehicle/animal/package detected? Or does the Home app already work that way?

Vivint only did person detection - not vehicles or package delivery. And the person detection isssued notifications to the point of nuisance - the lawn guy pushing a mower back and forth prompted repetitive "person loitering" alerts. Although notifications to the iphone were instantaneous, availability of clips in the app was frequently delayed by tens of minutes - you'd get a notification, click on it, and the associated video would fail to download in a timely fashion. So hopefully HSV is a little more intelligent and reliable. Your experience-based comments would be appreciated.

To answer your question, there is currently an app called HomeCam that does exactly what you’re asking for. Multiple live feed thumbnails of HomeKit cameras with the ability to select one. The app also has the ability to scroll through the cameras automatically at a set interval (I think it’s 10 or 30 seconds) and has an iOS widget and Apple Watch App. However, this functionality was just announced at WWDC for iOS15 natively. I’ve had it running for a period of time without time out but I can’t say how long till it times out. Never got that far. I suppose as long as the AppleTV is set to “never sleep”

Excellent, thanks!
