Like many I bought the OG HomePod in 2018 and was quite impressed at the time with the mics picking up commands from afar.
Then at some stage an improved update occurred and I could stand next to it yelling (after a while of gentle coaxing) "Hey Siri" and it would refuse to go into conversation.
Fast forward to a few days ago when updating to HomePod 26.6. There I was once again yelling (when normal talking failed) "Hey Siri" "Siri" at my M2 MBP in front of my nose...no reaction. All I wanted was a timer set (was making pizza). I gave up and just looked at the time instead. Then suddenly an alarm went off across the other side of the apartment and wouldn't you know it, the MBP was deaf because the HomePod picked up the cue instead.
The HomePod is two rooms away, those rooms are divided by thick concrete walls filled with metal girders and hay from 1901. And yet..once again, the HomePod heard everything and the sensitivity was restored to what it was like back when I bought it.
I'll have to experiment to see if the other Siri capabilities have yet once again returned also. You know, actually not failing at selecting music to be played. But this at least is a start and why my title says re-impressed.
