So far all Homepod documentation points to iOS devices. I wonder if there's anything showing if I can simply use my macbook pro 2009, with it, as those older computers don't support airplay 2. I don't have any iOS devices and I'm not really thinking about getting one.

The only reason why I've been skipping buying a Sonos One, was because you either have to use their awful app or have airplay 2. But if the Homepod will be the same, I guess I'll skip it as well.

It seems that the HomePod will only be compatible with MacBooks after 2012. However this is for the peer to peer music streaming. Any idea on what that means?

That means you use your laptop to stream music to the HomePod and you cannot use Siri to control the music selection/playback.

If you really want the HomePod but you don't have a laptop that is compatible with Airplay 2, then sign up for Apple Music and use Siri that way.

The weird thing here is, I wrote apple about this, and according to them there was no way I could actually use a macbook to stream music to a HomePod. To be honest, about controlling the music with Siri, I couldn't care less about it. What I do care is that I can stream just music from iTunes to the HomePod, while having an 2009 macbook pro. Weirdly enough something as simple as that, seems not to be possible.
