I’ve read about the amplifier IC failing and causing a DC offset issue that destroys the subwoofer.
Can this be fixed with a software update or will it eventually happen to all of them?
Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

It's a hardware issue. It's the International Rectifier PowlRaudio 98-0431 amplifier IC that is failing.

there was some analysis by some users that showed the offset was due to the capacitors heating up. Either way, these homepods seem like dumpster fires......Mine just died 2.5 years in and I was just using it as an alarm clock and homehub. Apparently they can die one day out of the blue and can be fixed by replacing the diode. Whatever underlying issues are with these units, it seems they are predestined to fail at some point.
