So I purchased two HP on launch day and am having trouble with hey Siri been detected. The first HomePod was so bad that I returned it for a replacement. The second hp was a lot better than the first but the replacement HP is even better again. I’m going to replaced the second HP and hope to finally get one that work 100% of the time. The replacement HP works most of the time but when it doesn’t it really doesn’t, I have to wait a couple of minutes and try again before it starts working again.

Is anyone else having trouble with hey Siri not been detected? If so, are you using a beta version of iOS when you setup your HomePod?

My HomePod responded wonderfully for a full day. Then when I went to demonstrate it to my brother it suddenly barely responded. I unplugged the HomePod and plugged it back in. It went back to normal where it responds fifteen feet away and has been working ever since. No idea what happened.

Yeah mine works well then it doesn’t, really weird. It’s like the software shuts down the mic or it freezes. The it comes back alive either with a reboot or does it by itself

No problems here, yeah I used the latest beta when setting up the HomePod but I wouldn’t have thought that’d matter.

There’s always going to be a percentage of duff devices. Can’t manufacture with a 0% failure rate. But it’s pretty bad you’ve had problems with two.

I hope you get it resolved, when it’s working properly it’s seriously good at responding.

Sometimes i need to say hey siri three times for her to wake, and im not saying it any differently. then other times it works straight away, do you think i should swap it out?

No long term usage here, just picked one up yesterday (and was a bit skeptical TBH) but so far I’m really impressed using Siri—from a pretty good distance and very quietly. I use Siri all the time with Car Play and its useful but really like Siri on the Homepod and find myself using it more than I expected—and getting answers to questions I didn’t expect. LOL, sometimes I find myself wanting to say ‘thank you’ to an answer or to a task completed.

I don’t know I’m trying to figure this out, I’ve had three total doing the same thing, surely all three can’t be duds? It happens with my wife as well, she is a very articulate speaker so I know it not my voice.

The concern for me is, it doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem so perhaps I got three duds within a bad batch

Same here.

Had two now. Took first one back and got a refund.

Two weeks later got a brand new one and whilst this is better, I can still be saying it 6 to 10 times to get it to respond yet other times it is instant.

Could it be anything to do with poor wifi?

Siri is server based, any network connections can cause it to do odd things, become unresponsive and/or report that "I'm sorry I'm having trouble connecting to the internet........". This could be in your network, the ISPs or even Apples.

I absolutely feel Siri isn't as responsive as it was when I first got the HomePod. However I've devised a test, I have an open floor plan so I walk about 30 feet away from the HP facing away from the HomePod I say "Hey Siri what is 1 + 1" at my relaxed normal talking volume. I consider the test exceeding an real world use (facing away at distance and low talking volume). So far Siri has proven me wrong every single time. At this point I dont know if its me or what? I do have a tendency to mumble...

I think it’s software based, I’ve taken 4 back with each one having the same problem to some degree. The two new ones I have, have different sensitivities. But the funny thing is, if one is working great and for some reason I restore it then it becomes less sensitive and vice versa. Perhaps it has something to do with the setup process. How far you have your phone away to here the tone, or how loud you say hey Siri etc?

Something that I notices that effects mine very intermittently is other iOS devices. It will hang if my iPad tries to do the Siri request. That could have something to do with it. The HomePod is supposed to take the request unless you lift to wake the iPhone or Watch. So there is a lot of stuff going on and Siri is only as good as the weakest link.

BTW this is just not responding correct? I KNOW she can hear me because she rarely mixes up what I'm saying due to a poor/weak interpretation.

Another thing is, when you use it on your iPhone, you have to teach it your voice a few times however with the pod, you don't - maybe this could be something to do with it?

I refuse to believe I have had two duff / faulty units from two different Apple stores (and waiting a couple of weeks inbetween)

I tried doing a google search on this same issue and nothing popped up... reading through these forums and I'm relieved to see it wasn't just me having issues with Siri not hearing me say "Hey Siri." It's pretty sporadic, but if I use the Homepod regularly back to back changing through stations, pausing, etc... Siri sporadically becomes unresponsive at times for a response or two.

Update...
I haven't had any issues with "hey Siri" not responding over the last week. Just need to make sure not to mumble, cut words off and blur them together. I noticed I've been doing that when I'm lounging around the room and not really conversation with but just talking at HP to get to the next track.

I've again just gone through a situation of 15 to 20 times of saying 'hey siri' and it being totally unresponsive.
