I have a pair of original HomePods paired in stereo that I would like to connect to my MacBook Pro M1 as primary speakers on my desk.

Setting up the speakers to work with the MBP is no issue, however, there is a definite lag in the audio when I play/pause music or try and talk on video calls. It makes them completely useless for anything other than listening to music.

Is the lag a bug or an issue with my setup? I've tried all sorts but have had no luck at all.

Ideas?

That is expected/normal behavior since it's using Bluetooth, which always has latency or a lag.

If you use AirPlay instead (via the Music app, TV app, YouTube in Safari, etc.) then the audio will be in sync. Of course, not everything can be AirPlayed though, such as system sounds and apps that don't support it.

wondering if HomePod 2 will still be the same... im guessing probably. I just want smart/desktop speakers all-in one for my MacBook Pro.
