Anyone know if it supports phone calls and texts?
Yes it does

Nonsense, things can never be better than what they were originally conceived to be. Hey when they "upscale" your blu-rays to 8K are you gonna be happy? What about when they "upscale" your blu-rays to 16k still living the dream? Or perhaps you finally got a TV that presents 1080p footage that you can appropriate.
Good for you.Dude I was using the example to show that the intended playback equipment is irrelevant.
Playing stereo through my five speakers sounds better than when I play through two. I don't even know what you're disputing here. I don't really care what your opinion is on the matter, the fact is it sounds better.
I'm talking about talking directly into Siri from the mic on my iPhone, thanks. From a distance of all of 1 foot, maybe less. It's not the mic. It's the often comically bad responses to pretty straight forward questions. I'm sure it'll all get way better over time, but it's still terrible with context. I'll let you all train it for a while, thanks, and start using it when I don't have to do so much extra work to talk to it in a way it understands. You're complaining about Siri not understanding you and then trash talking the one device that is supposed to make Siri understand you better with its significantly improved microphones.
Your phone and your iPad are not designed to pick up your voice and understand you clearly from across the room, that's the whole point of the HomePod, Echo, and Google Home lines.
You are correct that it hasn't been released BUT people have heard the HomePod, back in June people at WWDC were given previews of the HomePod and it's sound, it was even compared against the Echo and Sonos.
So true, and this is [in my opinion] a big gap in the Apple approach. PERSONAL devices - particularly the phone and watch - are fine when limited to a single user perspective. SHARABLE devices - e.g. the iPad - needs to support multiple users in a non-concurrent mode. COMMON devices - e.g. the TV and HomePod - must be able to support multiple concurrent users in whatever context is appropriate to either the individual or the group depending on app.
Exactly. In our home we need a new stereo/speaker... i'm all for getting a HomePod. However, it must MUST be able to recognise my wife's voice as well as mine and my kids. If not, i wont even consider buying it as technically, most of the functionality will be just for me.
