looks like I have a few small ‘dents’ in the mesh cover new out of the box, I plan on exchanging it tomorrow. But does anyone else’s have blemishes or indents in the mesh cover...seems a little fragile.

Otherwise the HomePod kicks ass.

It shouldn't have any indents or blemishes. Clearly yours is damaged. As far as being fragile, I don't know any smart Speaker thats not, but it appears solid with a heavy weight.

I checked mine and don’t see any. Could you post a photo to show us what you mean?

Pictures would be helpful, but if there's anything that looks out of the ordinary, it's probably some sort of damage. The mesh netting over both of mine is consistent, uniform, and pristine, so I would think anything otherwise would be very obvious and stick out like a sore thumb.

I had a small indent at the top near the touch surface but I don't think it's impacted the sound quality at all.

Indents - no. That's a defect - if it came that way out of the box, seek a replacement.
As far as it being fragile - I actually managed to drop one the other day flat on the ground (hardwood floor). It did fall on the side mesh part and not on the glass surface thankfully. It still works fine and seems perfectly fine even though it fell from roughly 4 feet high. I guess the mesh softened the blow? IDK. I know my Amazon echo probably would not have survived that fall, but I am not testing that theory out :)

My cats knocked my Alexa Spot off the desk in our loft and it went down all the steps to land on the bottom floor. Not even a scratch!

When these were being introduced, I’m was worried that my black Turkish angora kitty would get her tiny claws stuck in the grooves, so I refrained from buying one. After hearing how depleted Mozart sounds like playing on a home pod, I am happy I have cats who saved me money.

I have two cats and they could not care less about the thing, fwiw.

I have seen this. I ordered two for pairing. One was perfect the second had two small indents in the mesh at the bottom. I used a toothpick and lightly pried the mesh indent right out. Minimal pressure and they are completely vanished.

It does not appear to be a defect. Rather the way the mesh is made. There are loops between the mesh outside layers that must have become compressed, but they came right out.

Nothing to worry about and no reason to return.
