I bought 2 HomePods, 2 mini’s - I hate them all 😂

I’ve put them on top of a high Bookshelf, to not risk to touch them, and trigger Siri.
For the record I hate Siri in general more than the speaker’s in it-selves.
Siri is deactivated on all my devices.

But nevertheless, once in a while, the HomePods/mini's - Siri - start to play/speak something that I haven’t started - just rubbish from totally nowhere.
Unfortunately HomePods are not very popular around here. Won’t get much for them, if I even find a dumb-ass to buy them at all. So I’ll let them be for now.
But I’m going to replace the old Speakers that I have used since I bought the Apple Expresses, with good bluetooth speakers. Have my eyes on some from Pioneer - a brand I have good experience of.
The old Apple Expresse’s deserve plenty of praise though!
OK, first of all, you can disable Siri on the HomePod if you want. I have done that to mine. Just go to setting and uncheck "listen for siri"

Second off, the resale of these is great. Just put them on eBay and they will sell.

There, I just solved both of your issues.

Bought one only to return it the same day, didn't realize it was wired, since all the images I saw on their website to this day btw. don't show a cable...

I'd be interested in a one without a permanent cable and with open standards, so it's not works well with non apple devices too without any workarounds or hacks required.

No, I’m sorry you didn’t. I have disabled Siri everywhere. It’s still popping up together with unexpected ’music’ that I don’t even have. But I will get rid of the HomePod's, don’t worry.

I have 5 Minis and one original HomePod. They work great for me (but if any give me problems it is the original HomePod). I put one in each room to easily control (mainly) lights and fans without having to say the room name.

I'm in need of a new one for a new room I have automated and I've noticed the Minis are listed as discontinued at all the warehouse clubs.

You know what would be really great? If similar to the newest HomePod, they finally launch a true SirAI less than a year after this one and it not be compatible. Hopefully the Spotify v Apple war is still going on then as well. Really benefit the consumer, ya know?

I would like to see POE on them many problems people claim as problems with HomePods or Apple TVs are often Wifi problems. My neighbour complained for years about his Apple TV disconnecting all the time and I fixed all his problems with a short patch lead, his Apple TV and router where in the same metal TV cabinet and separated by three metal panels.

I hate all of my pods, Siri is so braindead using it is not good for my health.
Completely agree. I’m in poor health and Siri’s failings make it worse.

Also Homepod originally would play Net Radio stations. I bought 3 then it stopped after a software update.

There is something very wrong with Apple’s bug reporting and feedback.

Wow, at this rate of innovation I think I could probably knock up something useful myself 😂

We’ve got two (full size) HomePods and an Eve Play for the stereo but I’ve been waiting to see what happens next to the HomePod line before buying anything else. How about a rechargeable, water resistant HomePod for the bathroom? Our DAB (satellite) radio in their has very little signal and I’d much rather be able to use streaming.

HomePods are another example of how far behind Apple‘s AI technology and voice assistant Siri is.

I own one HomePod Mini and I would love to get a few more but not at the current state this product is in.

The Home Pods have to get smarter fast.

I have the mini's but hardly ever use them: music quality is below par and constant connection problems. Regret having bought these.

I hope they have a battery powered option with MagSafe connector. The bottom of them is almost the exact size of the phone MagSafe connector. I would love to be able to tae them with me on trips, or to my backyard by the pool or for parties etc (not that I have a lot of those anymore). I also think it's bizarre how hard it is to use them with Siri.
IMO there are speakers way better suited to that (bluetooth, waterproof, rugged design). That said, there are third-party battery cases you can buy today for making the HomePod Mini portable.

Hopefully these aren't shipped until Apple corrects the Siri debacle. I, too have such a hard time with Siri on HomePod mini, especially trying to answer my "Hey Siri" requests to my iPhone from the other room in the house, only to refer me to the results on my iPhone anyway. Home automation and shortcuts fail almost daily now.
I feel like my homepods have actually been getting worse over time, and so has siri’s word recognition, I keep hoping the new Apple Intelligence work will fix that, but it keeps getting pushed out. It’s the one major thing I’m really disappointed about with Apple right now. I do realize some of that may be Wi-Fi issues that will get solved by new chips, or at least I hope.

They compare nicely to $30 Echo Dots. They do not compare nicely to other $100 speakers. Luckily, I got mine for the seemless Apple ecosystem integration, and not the sound quality.

Unfortunately Siri is worse than useless, often tells my wife to unlock her phone before Siri can find her phone, and sometimes the wrong room responds.

Lately I've been using my Harman Kardon Invoke (that used to have Cortana on it) because a dumb speaker that sounds better, is a better user experience than the Homepod Mini. Similarly, my wife bought a $40 waterproof JBL speaker, because a dumb bluetooth speaker is a better experience.

I guess this is why Sonos became so popular?

I would like to stay in the Apple Eco system but alas, it is frustrating that Apple either is behind other maker/systems or ignore end user wants/needs from such devices. I rather spend 150 and get Wifi 7, a better chip, at least the same or better audio and fully integrate with HomeKit in a manner that gives us the "it just works..."

Then you didn't turn Siri off properly. Try again, user error is real.

And you forget to mention that I disproved your "HomePods are worth nothing on resale" argument. I am not worried, I was trying to help you. Don't want my help, it is easy to just move on. I wish you well.

It’s about time HomePods sorted out BBC radio in the uk. Alexa and Google have it, and they just won’t really sell well here until Apple sort it out.

I just hope the Apple WiFi chip is better than the current HomePod chip, WiFi reliability sucks. Siri? Also sucks but I believe that is a more fundamental Apple issue… that said, their best feature is adding stuff to my shopping list
