Applecare+ for a $99 Item, you gotta be kidding me.
Can I assume you don't have young kids who will no doubt be attracted to the glowing sphere, put their hands on it and possibly send it crashing to the floor?
Two accidental damage cases for two years for $15? Yeah, not bad to be fair.

You'd probably pay more in "insurance" per month on a cruddy point and shoot camera.

Ugly and still in a material completely hopeless to clean. Sad this is the best Apple can up with when they create so many other beautiful products.

Please explain this then: DD83A528-1C05-4150-BD1A-7860FC61217F.jpeg

My interpretation of the discrepancy: you can use minis for mono or stereo audio with Apple TV, but since it doesn’t have beamforming or whatever, it can’t do simulated surround (which the full size one either already can do, or will do in the near future)

Really looking forward to seeing side by side Audi Quality reviews between this and Google new Smart Home Speaker.
Both out within weeks of each other for the exact same price.

Should be very interesting to see how they stand up side by side.

We all know the Google Assistants ability's against Siri's Abilities.
So will look forward to seeing reviews of the Audio abilities also.

What's $99, insurance, as that's what this is, is bloody nonsense for an item that is this cheap, period.

plus a $15 for every case, you forgot that.

Waiting for Dolby Surround support than I buy 5 (assuming they collectively bring in the .1)

My HomePod at 1 year started with the random clicking/fart. Figured I could live with it. 6 months later it got freaken hot and stopped playing bass.

Luckily I had AppleCare and they replaced it but it’s been an unreliable first gen product IMO. Hopefully Apple applies it’s lessons learned for the mini.

As someone who owns 2 they are just fine when dealing with dust

Can someone explain to me why I would buy something like this? The full-size Homepod is vaguely desirable, but these?

If simply being knocked off a table renders this device unusable, then I don't want one.

$30, actually. If you bothered to read the article they still slog you with a $15 (plus tax) service fee. Not cheap.

Copy of amazon dot, but inverted... innovation!

Heh. If this was released after the HomePod mini, the fanboys would have a field day and once again start rabbiting on about how wonderful and innovative Apple are and how other tech companies could only dream to be as wonderful and innovative.

Could I use a pair of these for sound off of my iMac? Or is this just an iPhone/iPad device?

for playing music, yes, or air play videos. Not as general speakers due to the delay (for video editing for instance). I had to buy an Echo for this very reason as it also has 3.5mm input.

If they really launch 3rd party service we'll start talking... before that: thanks, but no thanks...
2 of those would make nice stereo pairs for certain places... but the power supply thing bothers me. I really hope it's using a standard connector at the HP, i.e. removable cable.
Those mini speakers reminded me of something then it hit me. They look like those protective sleeves for fruits.
You mean protective sleeves for fruits and HomePod Minis

Why do you suppose this won’t work as a speaker pair for Apple TV?
Because it would be a very inexpensive surround sound system and Apple doesn’t do anything that would be cost saving to the consumer.
they make us buy the big brother for that.
