I’ve bought new HomePod minis and set them up as stereo pair. They are located in the same room as my Apple TV 4K.

They’re working great in pair and when used as temporary Apple TV output.

However, I’m unable to set them as permanent output:
It lets me select them but when I play content a dialog pops up saying something like „unable to AirPlay“.

It’s strange though that there are no problems when using them as temporary output.

Already resettled the Apple TV but sadly no luck.

The device that the Apple TV is connected to is a XGMI Halo+.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Well it seem your XGMI Halo+ doesn't have Airplay installed!
Huh? The Apple TV would be connected to the XGMI Halo+ via HDMI! OP is trying to AirPlay to the HomePods when making them the default audio output!
