Anyone have a HomePod Mini die for no apparent reason? I noticed it was No Response in HomeKit and also disconnected from Wi-Fi in the eero app. Tried a power cycle and then a factory reset but it’s showing no signs of life. Display not turning on at all and of course I’m just a month out of warranty.

Expect this from an OG, but not the Mini which is fairly new. Now I have to shell out another 100 bux (part of a stereo pair) because Apple can’t build a quality speaker for the life of them. Shameful.

Maybe it’s time for a smart speaker rule of three. Big sound, no cooling, long life - pick two.

It does seem like of all the Apple products, the HomePod lineup gets first prize for planned obsolescence.

Worst part is, I removed it from my Home and now I have a perpetual indication that the removed HomePod is No Response. Great!

Not sure if you've tried, but you can plug it in to your Mac with the USB-C connector and restore the firmware that way. Worth a shot if you haven't tried.

Was thinking about that but it looks to be completely dead. Display is blank, not lighting up. No sound either. Tried a manual factory reset and it’s lifeless. I’ll give it a shot but not sure it will spring to life after plugging to a Mac.

If it's DOA it's new. If it's new you should get it replaced under warranty. They build truckloads of these things, a couple of them are bound to have manufacturing issues. No big deal.

I got it in Dec 2021. It’s just over a year old, past the warranty period. They’ll probably tell me to kick rocks but worth a shot I suppose.

Oh ok. You wrote "DOA", which means "dead on arrival", implying it had just arrived and was very new. Good luck!

Sorry, I see the misunderstanding. In my line of work, we use the term DOA loosely, for anyone that dies at any time.

since it is dead, you should be able to get a replacement for lesser than the price of a new one if you ask support. However if theres a sale then might as well get that.

How much lesser do you think? Never heard of Apple doing that but I’ll give it a shot. Thanks. I do have a perpetual 10% discount at Apple for being a Veteran though.

Soooo, don’t I feel like the effin ******.

Turns out the HomePod is perfectly fine. I connected it to a male-female USB-C extension cable that apparently went bad. Removed the cable from the mix and she fired right up 🫢.

Now I still got this alert in the Home app that that HomePod isn’t responding which sucks. That stayed even though I removed the HomePod from the Home app while troubleshooting.

Please go easy on me 😬
