Let me know when the HomePod uses Amazon Alexa instead of Siri, and I’ll buy one. It also must support the entire ecosystem of Amazon Alexa smart plugs, Amazon Alexa smart outlets, and Amazon Alexa smart accessories. Oh, never mind, I’ll just buy an Alexa device.
I once felt the same, had all my home items attached to 3 Alexa devices. But then Alexa would sometimes stop recognizing a device, and it was a pain to figure out how to reconnect it. I finally bought some new HomeKit compatible smart plugs and two HomePod minis, and haven’t had any problems thus far. But I agree, I’ll use my Alexa for anything else—especially questions my 5 year old asks that Siri can’t answer!

I ended up selling, or plan to sell, my Homepod minis, and now live in a Sonos household.

Apple seriously needs to get more than a toe in the water here; their efforts here have always felt half-hearted.

Example: look at Sonos and their ability to allow multiple services. It's second to none. I've looked and there is no other company that does third party integration so well. You can't even get BBC radio on HomePods without using airplay, a huge miss.
Price was the biggest problem with the original HomePods.

Such a shame, should've sold them at €200, would've been a hit at that price point.

I hope this means that the Swedish release is close. I want to sell my 2 Sonos roams and replace them with the mini. Main reason is because of the eco system. I hate not being able to use Siri to change tracks when I’m in the shower for e.g.
