I received my HomePod Mini's today. I got them set up and everything is working great save for one little issue.

I have one of the HomePods in my bedroom. When I say "Hey Siri lights", "Hey Siri turn the lights on", or "Hey Siri, turn the lights to XX%" it works great, only changing the status of the lights in the Bedroom. However, when I say "Hey Siri, lights off" or "Hey Siri, turn the lights off", it turns off ALL the lights in the house.

Has anyone else seen this issue and/or have a proposed solution?

For the record my setup is as follows:
Sengled Hub and 4 light bulbs named "Bedroom Bulb #"
Meross Light Switch named "Bedroom Main Lights"
HomePod Mini is named "Bedroom HomePod"
All are set up in the same room within the Home app of course.

I think it's due to the way you have things named, try saying "Hey Siri turn off the bedroom lights" add the word "bedroom". See if that makes a difference?

You could also set scenes and say something like “goodnight” and have Siri turn off everything.

It works if I specify which room in my request. However, my understanding is that I should not have to name a room if I only want to adjust the lights that are in the same room as the HomePod. And that functionality works fine for turning the light on but not off.

EDIT:

The exact functionality I’m describing is listed on Apple’s HomePod product page. I’m assuming it’s a bug then?

If you don’t specify, Siri may not know which lights you are referring to, or turn them all off, as you noticed.

According to Apple it should automatically control the devices in the room to which the HomePod is assigned in HomeKit. Like I said, it works properly for turning them on, but not for turning them off which is why I suspect it must be a bug.

Definitely a bug. If messed around with it, moving the HomePod to other rooms in the Home app, and it works as intended in every room except the bedroom.

Yeah it works on my end. If I tell HomePod Siri while in a specific room to turn the lights off, it turns it off for that room only.

Are you sure your phone or other device other than the HomePod isn’t taking over? The phone is not assigned to a specific room so it wouldn’t know and assume you mean all the lights.

Yeah. I tested by holding the touch surface on the HomePod too.

I ended up resetting the HomePod and setting it up again. The “lights on” functionality works correctly as before, and now the “lights off” command turns off the lights in the bedroom and just one other room, rather than the whole house.

I’ll have to keep messing with it...
