anyone paired their homepod mini with macbook pro as "system" speakers? Im debating between homepod mini vs bose companion 20 multimedia. thoughts?

This was plan plan too, but I just got my homepod mini and quickly realized that you're pretty much stuck with connecting via airplay. This makes using them as system speakers a little more challenging since there is usually a delay between what is playing on your computer & when the sound comes out of the homepod mini. Maybe not as much of an issue when listening to music, but if you're watching videos or anything else where sync is important, the homepod mini doesn't work well. In addition, if you happen to be in an area where the wifi signal isn't reliable, the sound will cut in and out and on occasion, completely drop out.

ahhh, i guess i'll return mine. thanks for the feedback

Also, unless it's a new feature post-Catalina, only the Music app and maybe the TV app knows how to talk to a stereo pair. But as the system audio device, you can only use a single HomePod, not a stereo pair; and you see both of those in a pair listed separately as possible system output devices.

Selected apps (the TV app, for instance) know how to discover the latency and offset the video to compensate for it, although the experience of fast-forwarding is still a bit quirky as a result. But anything via AirPlay 2 would be useless where the latency is a problem, such as for games.
