wow this is terrible user experience as my fiance listens to music at home while I'm out and probably listening to music.. now we need a family plan just to both listen at the same time? sucks.

They are attempting to do both. I have a HomePod and use it strictly as a speaker. Siri is utterly worthless and so in HomeKit. Apple just really missed it on multiple fronts. Now they are trying to make up for it, but more than likely, it will just cause people to move away from Apple Music/HomePod and go to Sonos, etc.

I think you got it right. This is the first product category that Apple is in that I didn't purchase their offering. I went with the google home mini and it more than meets my needs for sound and automation integration. In every other product category, I could justify the case for going with Apple. But with this I've been very underwhelmed by their lack of Siri support, integration with the rest of the Apple ecosystem, and basic utility of the HomePod (not being able to just use it as a Bluetooth speaker, for example).

Um this makes perfect sense. No single user listens to multiple songs at the same time. Apple obviously closed a loophole of people sharing their account details with friends & family.

Single users should be able to stream more then one devices like up to two devices without doing a family plan

I consistently listen to music on my HomePod and iPhone at the same time. /s

I am having trouble finding a use case where and individual user would be listening to two different Apple Music tracks at the same time.

Until you've experience the sheer amazeballs that HomePod is in your own living room you'll think HomePod is an overpriced Echo. I sold my Echo.

And then you try an Apple TV 4K Film with HomePod as your speaker... prepare to NEED another HomePod.

Every person with an internet connection has an opinion about stuff these days and they come up with a million negatives to suit their ClickBait YouTube channels and what not.

HomePod is actually worth every penny in my opinion.

Siri gets way more right for me than Alexa ever did.

I should have been more specific and said my fiance is already on a family plan, which is why we don't have one together. This could be resolved if the homepod allowed for multiple users/profiles.
So you’re using another family’s Family plan while you’re out?

Title should read "Apple stops simultaneous streams on a single Apple Music account. HomePod Owners Upset". In all fairness, Spotify also does this. I can't play one song on my phone and another on a different speaker from the same account at the same time.

It's obvious most in this thread don't seem to understand this isn't really in Apple's control. Content creators and their deals with distribution companies are what determines how many devices can be streamed to. Apple likely violated that with allowing HomePod to stream, hence they'll need to fix something in the renegotiation talks.
