Is anyone on 18.2 newest Beta? It's horrible---no matter what I ask Siri it replies "Playing the John's of the John's". The only way I can get it to work is to hover my phone over it after selecting on my phone what I want to hear---

I rebooted both HomePods and they continue to exhibit the same problem. Is there a way to go back to the last stable version?

Please make sure to report this to Apple. That’s the whole reason for the beta program. If it’s not reported, they won’t know and there’s nothing much we can do about it here.

To update to 18.1 non beta, do you need to have iOS 18 and up on your devices?
I'm still on 17.7.2 and not ready to go to iOS 18

I reported this to them…one question, does Siri on a HomePod use Siri on the iPhone? Meaning, does the HomePod use your phone to connect to Siri? The reason I ask is my phone reacts the same way when asking about “am 990” and when I ask to play “my Christmas songs”.
Yes, I have reported it to Apple beta program

Should be two different Siris but what I noticed lately that’s really annoying is if I’d be at home asking Siri something, it would default to my phone. It used to default to the HomePods. When this really becomes annoying is when I’m in the shower and try to ask the HomePods in there to play some music but it comes out of my phone.

This exactly! Same issue here.

Set HomePods to Hey Siri and Siri. Set phone to Hey Siri only. Use “Siri” if you want your HomePods to only react.

Yep, tried that but for some reason, using “Siri” only on the HomePod causes personal requests to fail.

I disabled the Siri command on my iPhone. 10/10 times I’m already holding my phone when I’m using it so I can just hold down the power button instead.

if you leave the phone face down, it should ignore "hey siri"

might want to try rebooting your router (and maybe the homepods). The decision of which device should answer is handled over your home network.
