HomePod HomePod or 2 x Minis?

I considered 2 mini's but went with the OG HomePod last month. And i'm going to get a second soon as well for a stereo pair. The sound is incredible and will sound great as a pair. I'm not worried about lack of updates, I reckon they'll continue to support it as it's literally just a modified tvOS. The Apple TV 4th Gen from 2015 just got an update so.
It’s not just that it will sound great, it will be transformative with a second pair. I’ve finally listened to some music that is so well produced on stereo homepods that I can hear a hologram of sound in front of me.

I’ve just ordered a mini myself, and will be downgrading my bedroom experience from two og homepods to the one mini as I’ve found myself not listening to music in my bedroom on them, but rather on my airpods max.

The mini will now be used for Thread as well as my main white noise device at night. U1 support could be fun too. OG Homepods will live on in the living room as the permanent default source for incoming Apple TV 4K 2021.

My only potential ragret could be the severe downgrading of the white noise audio quality and coverage for my bedroom… hope I can get used to it.

Only place I'd go for 2 minis instead is if I was nearly always sitting in a position relative to the speakers that the stereo image the two produce was obvious. So for example, at my desk, I think 2 minis placed left and right of my monitor sounds better than one HomePod placed to one side. At close distances the bass response of the Minis is a lot more reasonable as well.
That's exactly the advice I'd give. At my desk, I've always had a single HomePod off to my right, but I've swapped it out for two Minis. The HomePod is a much better speaker, can go way louder, but when you're listening to it all day, it is weird having it off to one side.

For my use, I thought two Homepods would be a waste as I'm not going to be cranking them up loud.

The stereo pair of Minis does sound very good.
