I reset one of my HomePods and received this message once it completed:

Nothing has changed on my end with our home network…
This is likely a multicast issue.
What’s your network/Wi-Fi configuration?
This is a great app to test what’s working and what isn’t, with regards to multicast.

Yes, 15 and 15.1 had a bunch of problems affecting usability. 15.1.1 fixes them all. If you haven't updated yet, do it. By the way, popping sounds are a bad sign, unrelated to software updates, and usually a sign of impending hardware failure. If your HomePods are making popping sounds and are still under warranty then have them replaced.

It really doesn’t fix them all (for everyone anyway). HomeKit control is still completely unreliable. Philips Hue scenes are still troublesome. Siri still says just a sec, on it or one moment for virtually everything I ask the **** to do, even when steaming Apple Music!

The update to 15.1.1 seems to have switched off my morning wakeup alarm.
Thanks apple!!

As you can imagine I only discovered this when it was (literally) too late.

I should have said that 15.1.1 fixes all the problems I was experiencing. Everything is working well for me now including my HomeKit devices (Lutron dimmers and blinds, NanoLeaf Essentials bulb) and all my Automations and Scenes.

Edit: Also fixed flakey Siri responses and delays. Personal Requests still not working.
Edit: Personal Requests is now working after cycling "Hey Siri" on and off a couple of times.

Now might be a good time to turn off Automatic Updates for HomePods in the Home app, so we stay on 15.1.1

?

Did you unplug from the electricity your homepod , for a minute, plug it back in and then get it to work again. Reset it as you did when it was new. Sounds like it isn't connecting with the internet. I have had to do that several times befor 15.1

I bought all the new color mini HomePods as an experiment to see if only new hardware worked with Stereo Paired HomePods - none of my minis or regular big ones work anymore since iOS 15... and these STILL don't play stereo paired. So frustrating to have the Home App open and see that it only plays out of 1 speaker and forgets its supposed to be paired. I bought all new Apple hardware this year - iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Pro and iPad mini 6, MacBook Air M1 - and none of them communicate with HomePod like advertised. Returning all these pieces of E-WASTE. (these might not be new hardware after all, but yet more unsold painted over broken HomePod minis from 2020 - BUYER BE WARNED)

Before doing that, be sure you've updated all your pods to 15.1.1 and that your iPhone is up to date as well. At that point, if you are still having problems I'd start looking at your wifi network. I have a pair of OG HomePods in Home Theatre mode and another stereo pair of minis in another room. They are working perfectly since updating. 15.0 and 15.1 had a lot of problems but even with them, I never had a problem with stereo pairing not working. As for the new coloured Pods, there are no differences except the colour. The h/ware is the same.

Yes, HomePod OS 15.1.1 has returned my HomePods to the realm of sanity. But who the hell was responsible for signing off on the public release of 15.1? That version should have NEVER gone public.

It would be nice if someone at Apple would actually issue an APOLOGY for the hassle and frustration they caused.

I want a global anti-nag setting for OS updates. Since Apple seems to have lost the ability to fully test its software BEFORE foisting it on the public, I'm no longer going to update my devices right away. I'll wait weeks or months. And in the holding period, I don't want Apple nagging/reminding me about the OS updates.

Truth. For an entire year my HomePod setup mini and big were not functioning. Apple forcing us to update to a broken version of their software and not fixing it until now or not explaining why it went south …is wrong.

I'm still having issues. Actually I think it's getting worse my two home pods just randomly make a popping sound and reboot. My Sonos speakers work flawlessly . How embarrassing for Apple. :(
