HomePod is so sensitive to placement. Some songs sound amazing and others so flat that I question whether theres a fault. I don’t have overwhelming bass like many seem to be comparing of , just punch on adequately mastered songs.
However I am now paranoid that I have HomePod positioned in the wrong place (on a ladder shelf), can any recommend any specific songs on Apple Music that they consider exemplar in terms of sound quality. Just to ensure my positioning is correct.

Where’s the Pink Floyd? My birthday is in a week and dropped many hints to my wife that I would love to get the HomePod. Probably going to go with DSOTM or WYWH. That and my Classic Metal playlist on AM.

First song I listened to on my HomePod was Wish You Were Here, followed up with DSOTM. They were awesome, Great Gig in the Sky is something to behold.

Unfortunately if you have to “fish” for music to get better satisfaction out of the HP, what is that really telling you? I want to listen to what I want to, not glorified recordings.

I am returning mine. The HP is so so, I found an alternative that is better for the same price. And I did not have to “fish” for positioning either.

I know where you’re coming from. I always take a selection of my own music with me when I go to buy a new component for my Hi-Fi, I’ve seen me spend several hours sitting in a listening room demoing several pairs of speakers, or an amp. Thank god there’s still some places happy for you to do that. There’s nothing like what you know best for deciding on audio gear.

That said I’m always exploring new music and rediscovering tracks I’ve long since forgotten. I think playlists, be they Apple Music generated or other people’s are great for that.

Play the first 2 minutes of Kyla La Grange - Vampire Smile
It's a layered song (starts picking up around 45secs) that lets you get a feel for how HomePod separates all the different audio channels and directs them to you. Once you've played it, move the HomePod to an alternate location and try it again.
I initially had mine in one corner of the room, now I've moved it further away from the wall and I've elevated it even more - I did notice a difference.

There's a "what first song" thread somewhere and I recommended In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins, just crank Siri to 100% and wait...

I remember your post, I did actually do it after you suggested it. Hadn’t listened to that song in years until then. It was a nice experience :D

I had friends over and used that to demo the HomePod. During those first couple of minutes the wife was saying how they've got too many speaker type things and they don't need any more, then the drums kicked in and she did a double take, asked if that was all coming from the HomePod and said "maybe we can get one of these".

Wish my wife was so easily convinced. Maybe you should be on commission with Apple :p
