Stereo will make a vast difference in perceived quality. I have a couple of budget Bluetooth speakers which when put into stereo configuration suddenly sound unbelievable. A wide sound stage tightens the bass and the mids. It's really glorious. I'd take slightly worse stereo paired speakers over a better mono speaker any day.
