I bought two brand new, they were on like 11 or 10. something software... I dunno if that dates them to a bad batch? The first problem was how the Home app keeps saying they're going unresponsive all the time, updating them was a nightmare and I don't get why it was so slow? Crashing and trying to set them up for the first time, they kept kept failing about 5 or 6 times each. Now they're on the latest update I have stereo and they constantly have issues syncing, sometimes dropping out and losing the bass? Sounds like it's playing out the tweeters only randomly? Also when the bass is on it's way too overpowering, is there no mid size speaker inside? Sounds like it's all tweeter and woofer. I can hear it because when the woofer just dies for whatever reason, it's so high pitched and nasty. I really avoid powered speakers because you get a lot of electrical noise from the PSU, one of them I can hear it.... FFS! Every time I hear powered speakers, I get this. The Homepods are no different, one of them isn't doing it, but the other is and I'm guessing it is a common thing people do not pay attention to, but I listen for it like dead subpixels on a TV.
They're so much work to use :/ I wanted them to replace my old budget bookshelf speakers I bought like 6 years ago. However not only are they so buggy and nasty to use, but they sound worse than a cheap pair of bookshelf speakers that are old lol.
I'm gonna guess they didn't include bluetooth because they had a hard time getting them working on even Airplay.
