Hello,

I just purchased the new Apple TV 4K and paired it with my stereo Homepods as default speakers, while it works while using the apps (eg. Youtube, Netflilx, Prime, Apple TV +, etc.) on the Apple TV, but when I use my Macbook / iPad to screen mirror to the Apple TV using AirPlay, only one of the Homepod is working.

Is this normal? Does anyone encounter this as well or have any fixes?

I'm having similar behaviour with my new Apple TV 4K and two HomePod Minis (Minis). With the Minis you can't choose them as default speakers.

When I use my MacBook to screen mirror to the Apple TV, the sound won't come out of the Minis. I can only get sound out of the MacBook. On the MacBook if I select the Minis for the audio source, then the screen mirroring stops and sound does come of the Minis.

Note: I was using the Mirroring option, not the use Apple TV as separate display.

I wondering if this type of connection is not supported, ie
Mac video -> screen mirror to Apple TV via AirPlay,
Mac audio -> to HomePods via AirPlay

I had that problem a few betas ago, a restart of the minis and the appleTV solved the problem. With the new updates, have not had any problems whatsoever. Are you on latest software?

Sounds like your AppleTV software is old. (Actually I am on betas, so I could be mistaken, that maybe the function of the latest public release, I don't know). Rest assured it works great in 15 Minis (can be default, can play Atmos and can get lossless), even with Big Sur (I cannot update to Monterey, I'm out of date). One thing to note, the speaker selection is the name of the AppleTV when set as default speaker, cause they are connected)

How do you update the Minis to latest software, did you have to update your iPhone to iOS 15? At them moment I've only updated the Apple TV to tvOS 15

my procedure might be a little different because I'm on the beta program. The general procedure is to open the home app on Mac or iOS, then go to home settings, software update. It will check to see if you have software to install. On the beta, you have to install the software profile first, you download the homepod profile on iOS, then install, it will find your nearby HomePod, click install
