Interesting. Mine is on top of a cheap wooden shelf from Ikea so I wouln't care much if it stained (I don't plan on moving it anytime soon) but I'm curious to see if this is an isolated incident or keeps happening.

Wonder how long it takes, I have mine on a wooden table. There’s no marks yet but I’ve only had it three days.

I've had mine in the same exact spot for almost a week now. I got the white HomePod and it's resting on matte black wood. No ring no nothing. The only thing I can think of is resin or oils seeping out of the wood and breaking down the silicone bottom of the HomePod.

Plasticgate?
Circlegate?
Ringate?
Staingate?

Solved by the purchase of a doily which Apple will ship foc! ;)

Maybe it could be cheaply finished wood surfaces? Mine is on a glass table but not because of this issue.

It’s normal on an oiled wood table for a warm, moving thing to make marks.

If you’re using an oiled wood table, this is the $1.33 solution, and it also likely improves the sound by isolating the unit from the table.
