Because Home Sharing isn’t dependent on iTunes anymore. It works with the TV and Music apps. If you read reviews of macOS, iPadOS, and tvOS 13 you’ll learn lots interesting information.

What reviews that would give me that information? The reviews I have read are not too nice toward this move.

I didn’t say they were nice. I just pointed out this knowledge was written out. But I’ll concede the point.

So far I haven’t had any issues with Home Sharing directly. The biggest hurdle I’ve had has been about figuring where to put my new files since iMovie can’t export directly to the TV app. I’m used to downloading my videos then using iMovie to stitch all the files together into one big movie. I have it change the speed to 2x and preserve the pitch. I do it before I go to bed and when I wake up my video is ready to watch via Home Sharing.

But  has thought of that. Kind of. They just weren’t clear about it. You have to reset Media folder location. Once you do they’ll be a folder called “Automatically Add to TV”. Any video file you put there gets imported once you launch the app. I haven’t seen that written anywhere though. I may have missed it. I discovered it by accident because I was willing to take risks with my video folder because I don’t have many and most are temporary videos I delete at the end of the month. I’m not willing to play with with my music folder though, but I bet resetting it’s location will create a similar folder.

What I don’t get is why they didn’t just change iMovie’s export to iTunes to export to TV app. Doesn’t that make more sense? I mean their instructions say to export to a location of your choosing. Then launch the TV app chooses File and Import. That’s way more steps than before. I can’t wait to automate the process with Hazel.

Homesharing doesn't suit Apple's business model for selling you entertainment so don't expect it to be easy to use. They probably hope demand for Homesharing will just fade away. No chance with my media library - it is one of the things holding me back from " upgrading" to Catalina.

I always upgrade. Time and tech always marches on. Home Sharing still works. I actually like it better because the tv app doesn’t have to be running unlike iTunes.

They have changed the way it works slightly but I can't see them doing away with it.
If you have 6 family members and one account manager, one credit card and one purchaser, then naturally different people will want to watch different things and will need access to them. You may want to buy a film for the kids for instance that you have no interest in watching yourself and which you let them watch in the TV app on their computer.
More people using it will undoubtedly mean more sales.

With the new streaming service coming online in a few days, you will take a family subscription and each member of the family will also need access to that just like with Netflix now.

So it isn't going to go anywhere, in fact, it's going to be important to them.

We’re talking about Home Sharing not Family Sharing. But I agree that Family Sharing is the best.
