David Weber Announces Honor Harrington Movie Deal.

All I can say is HOT DAMN!! I'm on about the 7th book. This could be really good or really bad depending on how it's handled. The movie will be based on the first book in the series, On Basilisk Station. All I have to do is wait a couple years now. ;)

Jan 2017 Update: As the movie deal seems to have evaporated, changed the thread title to allow for other discussion about this book series.

2014 Update- Coming Soon.net

Evergreen Studios announced today plans to bring David Weber’s literary science fiction character, Honor Harrington, to the big screen. Tales of Honor is the name they’re giving to their expansive plans for a multi-platform adaptation, which is looking to include comic books

, digital games, webisodes, a television series and a feature film.

Tales of Honor follows the life and times of Harrington, a brilliant genetically engineered female spaceship captain, as she heroically leads her crew through a series of epic political, military, and personal adventures. The stories are set 2,000 years in the future when hyperspace travel has allowed humanity to colonize the far reaches of the universe and are underscored by altruistic themes such as loyalty and leadership.

At this rate, maybe 2020. Here's hoping they pull this off. :) It's uncertain, which book the first movie will be based on. For myself, I'd prefer it be the first book where Honor makes her mark as a first time skipper.

Belated News Regarding the movie: Evergreen closed its doors in mid-2015, putting plans for the movie on hold. David Weber has indicated that other creators might be interested in turning the book into a small screen miniseries instead. I won't hold my breath. :(

Anyone here who has read the Honor Harrington Series through A Rising Thunder? I'm a bit irritated there is not a straight up sequel written that continues directly from the end of ART.

Based on some online research, and this link , the next book Shadow of Freedom is described as more like an entry in the Sagami Island series, taking place parallel to the events in ART, was originally written as part of ART, then split off, due to the size of ART.

I've not read any of the Sagami Island series. I assume that the only path forward is to read SoF, and then Shadow of Victory?

I assume it does not make any significant difference to the main narrative, the war with the Solarian League, if I've not read any of the Sagami Island series? I wonder if this can be skipped and go straight to Shadow of Victory without losing any significant info?

Update: Looking at the SoV link, it appears that the whole Mesan Alignment Deal takes place in those two books so they must be read but Honor Harrington is not really involved in these stories. Am I right saying the the final chapter of the War with the Solarian League is not yet resolved in print?
Thanks!

I visited the David Weber forums and was shocked to be informed, after reading A Rising Thunder that the next Honor book is due out in 2018 and in the mean time the story is peripherally pushed though a series of side stories (books) and to get a key element of the current story, I might have to read them.

This makes me very unhappy if an author purposely resorted to this kind of maneuver to sell more books? I'm not sure att his point, but thinking about it.

Like many authors, he is working on multiple different series simultaneously. He just released book nine in the Safehold series and I highly recommend this series if you have enjoyed the Honor Harrington series.
