I did some searching, but really didn't come up with much. Whenever I am watching flash material, especially stuff with a lot of movement (Hulu, Joost, etc), I get some pretty bad horizontal tearing in the video. To me, it looks like a sync problem, but I am not sure. I have an external 22" Samsung connected via VGA, and there is NO tearing at all. When viewing in mirrored mode, the Samsung plays the video just fine, whereas my nicer, brighter, crisper iMac screen has the tearing. This issue happens with both the latest versions of Firefox and Safari. Any ideas?

Edit: I just noticed that the tearing starts at the top of the screen and moves to the bottom, then repeats. It looks just like a VCR that has the tracking screwed up on it. Hope that helps.

Edit2: It is NOT just flash. It happens during DVDs, iTunes movies, everything. Hell, now its even happening when I move windows around and switch users. I think i have a bigger problem than what i thought...

    Similar Problem perhaps?

    From Wikipedia:
In early February 2006, Apple confirmed reports of video display problems on the new Intel-based iMacs. When playing video on Apple's Front Row media browser, some 20-inch iMacs (those built-to-order with upgraded video cards) showed random horizontal lines, ghosting, video tearing and other problems. The problem was fixed with a software update.

Horizontal video tearing on 24" and 27" iMacs when attached to external display

I have been having almost exactly the same problems described above (by tbealmear) since purchasing a new 24" iMac a couple of months ago and connecting it to a 23" Apple Cinema Display. Upgraded to a 24" iMac with NVidia video card w/ 256MB Ram, connected it to a 23" ACD and got the same problem. Upgraded to a 27" iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4670 video card w/ 256MB Ram, connected it to a 23" ACD (and also to a 30" ACD) and got the same problem. Swapped out the miniDisplayport to DVI adaptor for another such adapter, thinking that may be it, and got the same problem.

My mother taught me that if you cannot say something good about someone, don't say anything. So, I will say nothing about my experience w Apple Care.

Would be interested to hear if tbealmear or others have found a fix this. Thanks!
