Today, my drunk uncle threw my brand new iPhone 3GS into my pool, ruining it completely. When I asked him to pay for the 600 dollar replacement cost, he said he wasn't responsible for his drunken actions. All of my family members are on his side. FML

just read it on fmylife.com I can't believe it

My advice to that guy would be to do the same to his uncle's phone, along with any other expensive things he may own.

But what if he was under age? He couldn't really do anything then

Waterboard your uncle, then get a new family. I'd be FURIOUS:mad: if someone threw my iPhone in a pool. How effing stupid does one have to be? Even if I'm drunk I don't do stuff like that. If he got in a car and killed someone while he's drunk he is responsible for that. If it were my uncle he'd be tied up in the basement under the leaky faucet or something.

How does someone being under age matter? There was no mention of the owner drinking and it is most probable that the uncle was of age.

To get drunk yourself and screw around with his stuff, wouldn't be possible if you were underage.

It's possible to break stuff without being drunk :p

Also, it is possible for him to get drunk, just not legal :p

That guy should call the cops for destroying property or even sue him. I don't give a flying f*** if he's family - it almost takes me a month of solid work to earn that much money.

    ROFL.

Seriously, though, this notion being drunk abrogates responsibility for being a jackass really makes me angry. In my small town in Scotland, every moron brought to criminal court for assault claims they were drunk, as if their violent outbursts are somehow a wholly unforeseen effect of drinking liters of Buckie. One drunken driver even argued that they wouldn't have driven drunk if they hadn't ... er ... been drunk before getting into the car.

I think there should be a drinker's licence: a picture ID you receive when you're of legal age to drink and which can be taken off you if you become a violent drunk or drive drunk. Simples.

    Sue him in small claims.

    Don't be around him anymore.

Watch your stuff around people who like to get drunk.

OP, you have a F&&&ed up family, if they're all on his side. Get a new family along with your new iPhone.

It sounds sort of fake to me.

The entire family's on the uncle's side is what sounds weird to me.

I agree this sounds fake. I'm going to go out and be as stereotypical as possible, cuz I live in the US and I'm allowed to:

Anybody with a family that messed up can't afford an iPhone.

Half way into orbit my jet pack ran out of fuel at the same time my friends daughter took a dump on my lawn. I came crashing down at terminal velocity and smashed right into the poop. His daughter just laughed at me. FML.

    2. OP - 'Not possible to get drunk...when you're underage" Where did you grow up?
    3. Theft ad destruction of property is against the law, it doesn't matter how old either party is.
